Albert Edgar Zoellner, lovingly known as Bud, passed away on May 8, 2025, in Ormond Beach, Florida, at the age of 79. Born on July 21, 1945, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Bud lived a life marked by service, dedication, and deep love for his family and community.
Bud proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as a Seaman (E-3), including time aboard the USS Independence. Following his military service, he became a third-generation firefighter and spent 25 years with the Fort Lauderdale Fire Department, where he served as an Engineer, proudly driving and operating the fire engines. He earned the respect and admiration of his peers and community throughout his career.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce Zoellner, and their children: daughter Christine Utter, her sons Ryan and Adam, and their father, Michael Utter; and son James Zoellner (Kim), and their children, Madison, Brandon, and Dawson. He is also survived by his sister, Jackie Balser (Gene); brother-in-law, Joe Bornhorst; and many beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and great-grand-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Violet and Albert Jacob Zoellner, and his sister, Janeen Bornhorst.
Bud was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His pride in his family was evident in the way he showed up-without fail-from coaching his kids' Little League teams and attending their activities, to later being there for his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews at their games, plays, ceremonies, and celebrations. He always showed up with a smile and a full heart. Known for his easygoing nature, fun-loving spirit, and quick wit, Bud had a way of making everyone feel at ease. If you knew him, chances are you have a lighthearted story or a memory of a good laugh-he was a true jokester and a joy to be around.
A private memorial service for immediate family will be held in Ormond Beach, Florida. A graveside service will be held on July 12 at 11:00 at Arlington Memorial Gardens in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he will be laid to rest alongside family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local veterans organization or fire department in Bud's honor-causes close to his heart. Bud will be deeply missed, but we are grateful for the love, laughter, and memories he gave us.
