ALBERTA J. BENDER

Alberta J. "Al" Bender, 85, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025 after an illness of several years.

Born December 15, 1939 in Forbes, CO, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Betty (Clemenson) Johnson.

After graduating high school, she attended the Airline Stewardess School in Omaha, NE. She was then employed for a number of years as a Teletype Operator for Western Union. While on a trip to Bermuda, she met her husband, who was stationed there on active duty with the military.

Al was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Boiling Springs. She loved horses and antiquing. For more than 20 years she was involved with TRACC (Therapeutic Riding Association of Cumberland County.)

She was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Mae Johnson and two brothers, Hubert and Henry Johnson.

Surviving are her husband: John Bender; three daughters, Janelle Bender (Mark Zug) of Lewisberry, Jacqueline Bender and Sharon Wevodau (Matt), both of Mechanicsburg and a sister, Nettie Johnson Smith of California.

Services will be private.
