Alberta Lee “Tootle” Major, 74, formerly of Huntsville, OH, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025, in Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia.
She was born in Mason County, West Virginia on November 14, 1950, the daughter of the late Charles A. and Geraldine Jean (Lee) Varian.
On July 15, 1967, she married Martin McCravey “Buzz” Major, Jr. in Meigs County, Ohio and he preceded her in death on March 14, 2007. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Steven E. Major in 1984, a daughter, Melinda Neer in 2024, a great granddaughter, Ryleigh Schwer in 2013, a brother, David Varian in 2023, and two brothers-in-laws, Jack Bacon and Dennis Ault.
She is survived by a daughter, Ruby (Steve) Reames of Bellefontaine, a son, Charles (Gloria) Major of Russells Point, her grandchildren, Tiffany Schwer, Brooke Dick, Brittany (Tony) Ceyler, Bryan (Tiffany) Neeley, Misty (April) Thiel, Mary Major, Kimberly Major, and Steven (Kaitlyn) Major, her great grandchildren, Caiden, Xavier, Layne, Kinley, Jenix, Bexley, Kyra, Hailey, Noah, Peyton, Guy, Isabella, Alaina, Fallon, Karson, Keiara, Kingston, Kenyon, Titan, Kaisley, Laiken, and a new baby boy Major, two sisters, Charlotte Ault of Bellefontaine, Esther Bacon of Indiana, two brothers, Charles "Googe" (Deone) Varian of Bellefontaine, and Ray "Pork" (Garnet) Varian of Mason, WV, and many nieces and nephews.
Tootle worked many years as a caring nurse’s aide and absolutely loved taking care of people. She loved her family and spending time with them, she enjoyed playing BINGO, was a huge fan of her Ohio State Buckeyes and Pittsburgh Steelers as well as listening to Elvis Presley.
Sam Varian will officiate a funeral service on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 2:00pm in the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St. Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311. Visitation will be two hours prior (12Noon to 2pm) to the service at the funeral home on Monday and burial will follow in Huntsville Cemetery.
