Alberto Barrera Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Albert Barrera (09/20/1960 – 08/06/2025) was a man of faith, steadfast in his belief that Jesus Christ was the Son of God; who was sent to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. Albert entered peacefully into everlasting life on August 6th surrounded by his family. He was the youngest son of Ascension and Cyrilda Barrera, who welcomed him into Heaven alongside his sister Mickey and brother Arnold. His siblings Adrian, Junior, Mercy and Alex will miss him dearly. A servant of the Lord and community, Albert was recognized for his many contributions of time and effort within Shafter youth sports, most notably his 25 years of service as coach and president of the one and only, Shafter Gladiators. Famous for his larger than life personality, Albert maintained his sense of humor throughout his time on Earth. And while he held many titles (Coach, Friend, Father and Grandfather) none was more cherished than that of husband to the love of his life, Barbara. Their 38 years of marriage bloomed as they raised three children (Paul, Santana and Vic) and grandchildren (Scarlet, Hannah, Grace, Izabella, Noah, Jaxson, Ricky, Riley, Autumn, Victor and Catherine) together. The Barreras sincerely appreciate the outpouring of love and support and ask that attendees wear blue and gold to honor "Big AL." While he may not be here in the physical to say it himself, Big AL would encourage everyone to welcome the Lord into their lives so in that time and place, that no person can know prior, you may stand together and bask in the glory of the Holy Spirit for eternity. We hope to see you soon to share your stories of our Gladiator, Albert Barrera.
The community and Gladiator alumni are welcomed to attend a celebration of life hosted for Albert on August 28th from 6:30PM – 8:30PM at the Shafter Ford Theater.
