Cruz, Alberto C., age 88, of Hawthorne, on Monday, December 26, 2022. He would have celebrated his 89th birthday on January 2nd.
Born in La Vega, Colombia, Alberto came to the U.S. in 1970, ultimately raising his family in Lodi. He then moved to Orlando, FL where he lived for 25 years, moving back to Hawthorne, NJ in 2017 due to health and care reasons. Throughout his life he was a hard worker with ambition. A former machinist, restauranter and auto mechanic owner, he started his own transportation service in Orlando known as All Star. He was always willing to help others in their time of need and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Alberto was the beloved father of John Cruz and his wife Yenny, of Lodi, Claudia Botero and her husband Fernando of Sarasota, FL, and Diego Cruz and his wife Laura of Hawthorne. He also leaves behind his former wife and mother of his children, Luz Vacca. Grandfather of Lorena Soto and her husband Robert, Viviana Osorio, Mauricio Osorio, Daniel Cruz, Andrew Cruz, Cristian Cruz, Jessica Cruz, Carolina Cruz, and Daniela Cruz. Great grandfather of Troy, Robert, Anthony, Tyler, Katalina, Mateo, and Sebastian. Brother of surviving siblings Alicia Cruz, Ester Pierce, Estella Cruz, and Ana Cruz. He is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews.
Cremation will take place privately. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2022, at 11:00am, meeting at St. Anthony's R.C. Church, 276 Diamond Bridge Avenue, Hawthorne. Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
