ALBERTO MERCADO LAPRESCA

Alberto (Abet) Lapresca, 74, beloved husband of Priscilla Lapresca, father of Carlos Miguel and Nikko Alberto, brother of Pepe, Nieves, Hermie and Puring, brother-in-law, friend, uncle and 4th degree Knight of Columbus, passed away unexpectedly on January 5, 2026 at home in Leander, TX. He was born on December 7, 1951 in Los Banos, Laguna, Philippines.

Abet grew up in the University of the Philippines Diliman campus where his father worked as superintendent, attending elementary and high school in the campus and attending the University of the Philippines College of Veterinary Medicine. He joined the Rodeo Club at the College of VetMed and served as the King Rancher. He met his future wife Priscilla at the University. They were married on October 10, 1981 and had two sons. In 1984 they moved to California where he was employed in pharmaceutical research for 40 years, at Kendall McGaw, then as a Pathology Research Scientist at Roche Pharmaceuticals and Genentech Corporation in the San Francisco Bay Area. He kept in touch with college friends and participated in social events with them. While enjoying life in the US, he remained close to his family in the Philippines, offered help when needed, and visited often. After retirement, Abet and Priscilla moved to Leander, TX.

Service to the community and to the church was very important to Abet. He obtained his Amateur Extra ham radio operator license and for over 20 years volunteered with the San Mateo County Sherriff's Office of communications, in search and rescue, emergency response and radio communications for community events. He served with the Knights of Columbus in California for over 20 years and as a 4th degree Knight in Cedar Park, TX where he participated in the fish frys, donut Sundays, garage sales, festival and others. He enjoyed being with the Knights of St. Margaret Mary and appreciated the kindness of Texans. Abet loved his family and always did his best for them. He loved animals and was a wonderful dad and caregiver to the family pets. He enjoyed discussions about cars. He appreciated music of various genres and collected extensive playlists. He loved his friends, old and new.

Abet was generous, funny, and self-sacrificing and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. To everyone who shared in his remarkable life's journey, and to everyone who has offered comfort, assistance, and prayers to his family in their time of loss, please accept our heartfelt thanks and God's blessings! Life is short and can be gone in a heartbeat so hold your loved ones close each day.

I worked along side Abet for over 20 years in pharmaceutical research. I couldn't help but love this man. He was a joy to work with and he was often one or two steps ahead of me as we worked on different projects. He was funny, caring and a very competent, professional hard worker. I know he will be dearly missed. My sincere condolences to Priscilla, their sons and all those who loved him.
