Alcaner Williams Obituary

Alcaner Williams departed this life on September 19, 2025. She began her journey among us on March 13, 1945. Alcaner was the daughter of the late William and Annie Mae Simons. She is survived by her devoted husband, Lloyd Williams, one loving daughter, Erica Schuman, son-in-law (Christopher Schuman), three cherished grandsons, Jaden Bazemore, Christian Schuman, and Mason Schuman, seven sisters and brothers, Geraldine Rodgers, William Simons (Helen), Charlie Simons (Lonnie), Kay Wright (Joseph), Cecile Cuffee (Robert), Melvin Simons and Pamela Ashby (Solomon), as well as a host of relatives and friends.

Alcaner was reared in the Fentress section of Norfolk County, VA, now Chesapeake, VA. She graduated from Crestwood High School in 1965. Alcaner was a dedicated worker/supervisor for 25 years at the London Fog Coat Company. Later, she attended the Hicks Academy of Cosmetology, becoming a certified cosmetologist. She retired in 2010 after a successful career.

Caner, as she was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a loving and caring person, always highly fashionable, vibrant, energetic, simply full of life, and a fun person to be around. She had a refined sense of style when it came to interior decorating. Caner could light up a room with her presence and beautiful smile. She loved and enjoyed family gatherings and treasured her special times with her husband, daughter, and grandsons.

At the end of each week, Caner looked forward to what everyone knew was her date night with Lloyd. It was a special night, where they spent hours listening to jazz and enjoying each other's company. Everyone also knew not to call the house that night, because they were not going to answer.

Caner's journey on this earth was marked by love, compassion, and unwavering dedication to those in need. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and others who were touched by her kindness and generosity. For over 50 years, Caner was a loving and loyal spouse to her husband, Lloyd. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. We, the family, ask that you remember Caner, not for how her life ended, but for how it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Alcaner was the diamond that stumbled into the lives of all who knew her. Diamonds are priceless and remain so for eternity.
