Alden Patten Obituary

Alden “Pat” Patten, age 91, of Waseca, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025. He was born on November 9, 1933 in St. James, Minnesota to Earl and Anna (Carlson) Patten. After graduating from Medford High School in 1952, he entered into the United States Marine Corp serving his country from 1953 to 1956. He attended basic training at Camp Pendleton, served in Korea, and was honorably discharged in 1956. Pat received the National Defense Service Medal, UN Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal. After his military service, he entered into the construction field and found a home working as a foreman for AB Systems starting in 1972 until his retirement in 1995. In his earlier years, Pat enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing. He also enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his family, friends, and veterans. Pat was a proud member of the VFW and American Legion for over 50 years.

Pat is survived by five children, Cindy Harrold, Suzie Root, Lynne Patten, Bill Patten (Kelly Lundgren) and Joely Patten Eskens (Allen); one sister Lois Danks; six grandchildren, Shane Patten, Abbey (Rick) Hackbarth, Bill (Machia) Root, Jackie Root, Ben Root, Mikayla Eskens (Jon Koser), nine great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former spouse, Donna Oliva (Bartz), the mother of his children.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Anna Patten, sisters Marjorie Patten and Kathy Gunderson, brother-in-law Luther Danks, nephew Steve Danks, and grandchild Jesse Hudson.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waseca, with Memorial Visitation held prior to the service starting at 9:30 AM. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Dennis Steffel Omtvedt Funeral Home in Waseca.

A special thanks to the doctors and staff at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center, Freedom Home Health Care, Ecumen (hospice), and Oaklawn Rehabilitation Center.

Pat will be remembered for his calm demeanor, sense of humor, quiet strength, and generous spirit.
