Matthew George Connor, a lifelong resident of Waseca, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato at the age of 75.
Matt was born on January 1, 1950, in Waseca to Lee and Mildred (Brooks) Connor. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Waseca in 1968 before going on to study accounting at Faribault Vo-Tech School. On July 21, 1973 Matt was united in marriage to Kathleen Grotsun at the Congregational Church in Freeborn. Together, they made their home in Waseca, where they raised their three children.
Matt was a dedicated employee of the EF Johnson Company for many years until his retirement. Outside of work, family was the center of his life. He treasured every moment spent with them and his greatest joy was being “grandpa” to his three grandsons. He also loved spending time on the lakes and rivers fishing with his children and brothers-in-law.
As a devoted member of the First Congregational Church in Waseca, Matt was active throughout the years as a Sunday school teacher, soundboard operator, member of the men's group and through serving on various boards and committees. Matt was proud to have lived his whole life in Waseca and actively used his passion for genealogy and historical research to support the Waseca Historical Society in sharing the area’s rich history. Matt will forever be remembered for his love of family and community.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Kathy; his children: Brian Connor of Waseca, Kim Schroeder of Zumbrota, and Kevin Connor of Waseca; and his grandsons Ethan, Colby, and Jacob Schroeder along with many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Lee and Mildred Connor; siblings: Pat and Bonnie Connor; and son-in-law Gary Schroeder Jr.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at the Third Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waseca. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at First Congregational Church in Waseca with Pastor Derek Skoglund officiating.
