Carol Connor Obituary

Carol Dineen Connor

April 25, 1934 - November 4, 2025

Carol Dineen Connor, 91, passed away peacefully at home on November 4, surrounded by her family. A lifelong resident of Omaha, Carol was an elementary school teacher, market researcher, office manager, and-her proudest role-mother to four daughters.

Born on April 25, 1934, Carol was the youngest of three daughters of Alma Crellin and Martin J. Dineen, Jr. She attended Holy Name High School, Benedictine College (Mount Saint Scholastica) and Creighton University before beginning a diverse professional life that included positions as a Market Researcher for Proctor & Gamble, an Elementary Teacher at Holy Name and in the Omaha Public Schools, and later as Office Manager for her husband Jim's medical practice until her retirement in 2014.

Carol married the love of her life, Jim Connor, at Holy Name Catholic Church on October 28, 1961. Before long, four daughters filled their home. Raising them was more than a full-time job, as Carol managed sports schedules, music lessons, school activities, and the joyful chaos of a busy family.

Carol also poured her energy into volunteer work: coordinating art acquisitions for the Duchesne Academy Conge Gala fundraiser, stepping in as head coach for her daughters' softball teams, and helping organize junior tennis tournaments.

An avid reader, Carol enjoyed books and her daily Omaha World-Herald, particularly the crossword puzzles and sudoku, which she often completed in collaboration with Jim.

Carol and Jim shared a deep love of travel, exploring all seven continents together. She especially cherished their cruises and their journeys through Japan and China. Carol's sense of adventure made her game for anything-from driving a stick-shift van on the German Autobahn, to conquering her fear of heights to kiss the Blarney Stone, to keeping up with Jim on skis in the Alps.

A natural extrovert, Carol never met a stranger. She struck up conversations everywhere she went and formed lasting friendships along the way. Visitors to her home quickly learned that no one left without being offered something to eat or drink. Her generosity extended far beyond family-she welcomed international exchange students from Japan, her daughters' friends, and anyone who needed a place to feel at home. She was known for hosting unforgettable parties that are still fondly remembered.

Above all, Carol will be remembered for her warmth and wit, her enthusiasm for travel and adventure, her boundless hospitality, and her gift for making every person feel welcome.

Surviving family members include sister Betty Dineen Shrier, brother-in-law Tom Connor (Tracy), nephew Mike Connor, wife Lisa and son Evan, nieces and nephews Becky Schendt, Steven Schendt, John Schendt, all of Omaha, daughters Peg Connor-Porter and husband Scott of Laramie, WY, Sharon Connor of Pittsburgh, PA, Kathleen Connor and partner Paul Leachtenauer of Seattle, WA, Trish Connor of Omaha, NE, and granddaughter Natalia Connor of Pittsburgh, PA.

Predeceased family members include husband Dr. P. James Connor, Baby Boy Connor, parents Martin Joseph Dineen and Alma Crellin Dineen, in-laws Patrick J. and Ellen (Fanning) Connor, brother-in-law Bob Connor and wife Betty, sister Patricia Dineen Schendt and husband Francis "Bud" Schendt, sister-in-law Connie Connor, niece Barbara O'Hanlon, nephew Jeffrey P. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol's name can be made to St John's Catholic Church at Creighton University and Siena Francis House.

Sharon, Natalia, Peg, Trish, Bea and families,
With sincere condolences as you celebrate your mom's life so well lived, and mourn her tremendous loss in your lives and the many lives she touched through her presence.

I'll miss Carol welcoming us to any holiday, party, or sporting event, decade after decade. I'll miss her genuine engagement in learning about our lives, her care packages, her vibrancy and humor.

Her love of family, learning, laughter, sports, and travel (while I'm unclear on the order, I do know that family was first for her) is remarkably evident in each of you. I am (we are) beyond grateful to share in her continuing legacy, knowing her spirit and gifts live on through all of you.

In Deepest Sympathy,
Virginia, Paul, Jack and Nick

I was a grade school and high school classmate of Carol at Holy Name.
She was always very friendly and welcoming. A wonderful person to be around. Carol used to treat visitors in HS with delicious homemade fudge. There are not many the HNHS Class of '52 still surviving. She will be truly missed. May Our Lord become her into his heavenly home.
