Belchertown- Alden B. "Sam" Rutter, 84, passed away July 30, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Alden was born in Ware, MA on July 23, 1940 to Robert F. and Marjorie (Delano) Rutter. He graduated from Warren High School, after which he joined the U.S. Navy. Alden was a very proud Navy veteran, serving on the USS Fred T. Berry from 1958-1961. After his military service, Alden went on to work for Peter Pan Bus Lines. He drove for 27 years and received an award for completing more than 1 million accident-free miles. Alden was a fan of college hockey, Red Sox baseball, stock car racing, and mostly enjoyed spending time with his sons at many of these events. He is predeceased by his parents Frank and Marjorie Rutter, his sister Judy (Rutter) Doering, and his brothers Robert and Cliff Rutter. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Joan (Bergeron) Rutter and their two sons, Kent and his wife Maria, and Brian and his wife Traccie. He also leaves his sister, Betsy and her husband Larry Tuttle, a sister-in-law, Jan (Walker) Rutter, 5 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. A period of visitation will be held on August 8, 2024 from 4:00-6:30pm with a service to begin at 6:30pm at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alden's name can be made to a charity of your choice.
