Aldo Bussio Obituary

Visit the Nelson Family Mortuary website to view the full obituary.
It is with heavy hearts and deep fondness that the family of Aldo Bussio ("Bush") announce his passing on August 14, 2025 and celebrate the rich legacy he leaves behind. As the youngest child born to humble Italian immigrants, Aldo's life grew into the epitome of the American dream. Born on November 6, 1932, Aldo is a part of the great generation of people who witnessed the world dramatically change from the start of his life to the end of it. Some of Aldo's childhood memories include his mother heating bricks in the fire and wrapping them in newspapers to place in his bed to keep him warm in the winter. He had fond memories of his mother's Italian cooking and his father's annual 'wine-making' -where the better tasting 'first wine' batch would be happily distributed to loved family and friends and the 'second wine' batch would be given to those…. not as close to the family. One of the most beloved characters from his childhood was his dear Aunt Josie who did not have children of her own and dedicated her life to Aldo and his siblings. She was the first family member who immigrated to the U.S. and Aldo spoke of her with great affection and gratitude for her influence in paving the way for a better life for his family. This gift of trailblazing would later be a defining quality that Aldo passed on to his own family. Aldo's first time out of the country was during the Korean War when he went overseas to Germany to assist the army with cooking, stocking warehouses and distributing supplies for the European units. He would marvel at the amount of time it took to travel by boat across the continents and made remarks about the amount of sea-sick soldiers in such close quarters. His entrepreneurial spirit sparked when he returned to the states and received a line of credit to purchase a truck he used to make egg deliveries across Utah county. It was on one of his route stops at Coreleson's Café in Pleasant Grove where he met his lifelong sweetheart, companion, and entertainment, Valerie West. The two married on May 4, 1956 and embarked on a lifelong journey filled with making lifelong friends, world travels, and family memories. That same year at the age of 25, Bush met a business owner named Joe Burnham and entered into a partnership with him where he would use his truck to deliver concrete pipe. Eventually, Aldo would purchase the entirety of the company and made it his life-long career legacy, Geneva Pipe. Entrepreneurship and leadership came naturally to Aldo and he was able to expand the company from Utah county into Salt Lake and Nevada. He would eventually achieve awards and leadership appointments from the American Concrete Pipe Association and was well respected in the local and national industry circles. Aldo was a dedicated leader whose style is best described as silent, strong, and steady. His commitment to the company was steadfast and he persistently showed up to the office everyday well into his late 80's until he could no longer drive himself there. Bush's passions included reading western novels, gardening, aviation, hunting, and collecting shotguns, especially Brownings and Winchester Model 12's. It is not possible to talk about him without mentioning the fever he caught for hunting big game in Africa. He travelled there over 10 times throughout his life and took his friends and family members to experience it with him. One of his prominent memories was being chased by a bull elephant and having to 'hunt' it out of pure survivorship rather than out of sport. Aldo was a lifetime member of Safari Club International and never missed an opportunity to attend their annual convention. Perhaps the most widely known, and humorous, quality about Aldo was his relationship to a first impression. If his first experience with something went well, he would show a lifetime of loyalty to it. For example, he always stayed faithful to the car dealership who extended him the line of credit to purchase his first truck he delivered eggs with. However, if his first experience went bad, he would never touch it again. Which explains why he hasn't eaten cheese since childhood. Although Aldo has many great life achievements that many would envy such as being a successful businessman and world adventurer, the true legacy he leaves behind is similar to what his Aunt Josie did for him. His family will remember him for his silent, charitable spirit and dedication to his family. Aldo and Valerie used their life successes to create opportunities to help others whenever possible. The two of them never spoke a word of the good deeds they did for others, but it is not uncommon for the people they have touched throughout their life to tell family members of 'the time Aldo and Valerie helped them buy their first washer when they were first married and struggling' or many other kind acts. Most importantly, Aldo leaves behind four children, 17 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren who adore him and owe the best of their life memories and opportunities to him. He worked hard his entire life because his joy was to give opportunities he wished he would have received himself and his greatest concern was to make sure his loved ones would be okay once he left. Bush was preceded by his parents Joseph and Teresa, and his siblings, Mario, Emilio, Margaret, Lawrence and his grandson Anthony Bussio. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Valerie, and their four children Tamera (Alex Larsen and late husband Kerry Chipman), Vincent (Angela Wineger), Tori, Gina (Kurt Johnson) . And an honorable mention to Taz. His 16 year old dog who has stuck around to take care of the man who has been around to take care of everyone else. For those who would like to celebrate Bush's life and pay their respects to the family, there will be a viewing on Friday, August 22nd 6:00-8:00 pm and the funeral will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 23rd with the doors opening for a viewing at 10 am. Both the viewing and funeral will be at Nelson's Mortuary in Provo. 4780 N University Ave, Provo, UT 84604. All are welcome.
