Alejo Ortega, age 95, born in Veguita, New Mexico and a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on December 8, 2024. Mr. Ortega is survived by his children, Alex Ortega and wife, Andree, Vergie Vigil, Ray Ortega and wife, Liz, Marlyne Monroy, Steve Ortega and wife, Pam; grandchildren, Adam Ortega and wife Melinda, Mallory Jenkins and husband, Brian, Eric Ortega and Shelby, Vanessa Vigil and husband, Andre, Bubba Vigil and fiancée, Kristha, Angelique Ortega, and Andrew Ortega; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Austin, Grayson, Sofia, Hillevi, Izelin, and Adonis; siblings, Jimmy Ortega, Bernice Perez, Tony Ortega, and Connie Cote. A special thank you to the staff of Sandia Ridge Center, and Roadrunner Hospice. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Ermelina; siblings, Florela Silva, Fred Ortega, Cecelia Lopez, Andy Ortega, and Celestino Ortega. He was a member of Los Penitentes; he served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Ortega loved his gardening, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a devout Catholic who loved praying his Rosary and loved to sing. Visitation will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church 562 Atrisco Dr. SW on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 8:30 a.m. by Nancy Vigil Cotrell. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. and burial with military honors will follow the services at Mt. Calvary Cemetery 1900 Edith Blvd NE. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
