Aleksander Gul Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Homes - Niles on Jan. 22, 2026.
Aleks Gul tragically and unexpectedly passed away in his sleep on January 19, 2026 at the age of 23. His untimely passing leaves a void for his sister, Agnes Gul, and he is deeply missed by her fiancé Kevin and the Orozco family, the Jaffe, the Borzym and the Dornan families, his relatives in Poland, and all those who knew and loved him.
Aleks was born in Chicago on September 27, 2002. Despite the tragic loss of his mother at the age of 4 and his father at the age of 13, Aleks prospered at Glenbrook South High School. He loved tinkering with cars with his good friend Luke Jaffe. As a young man Aleks loved to get on his one-speed Road Bike and pedal. Nature was a get-away for him.
Aleks was quiet, thoughtful, utterly devoid of malice, and had a spiritual side to him. He loved good food and home cooking and was always the most appreciative of dinner guests in those neighboring households that opened their doors to him. His first impression was often a mass of shaggy blond hair that he loved to wear fashionably long, and he was quick to turn-on his beaming smile.
He was passionately pursuing his path of becoming a Master Union Welder and loved nothing more than to whip out his iPhone and show you his latest pipework welds and how they measured up to his Master Welding instructors – small pipes at crazy angles in small spaces. His vision was to be an independent Union Pipefitter with his own mobile rig.
To those that desperately wanted him to succeed, and find his own way, his own family, and his own happiness, his passing seems shockingly unfair at such a young age, but we take some comfort that he is with his beloved parents again.

While I never had the joy of having Aleks in class, I was lucky to watch him grow throughout his time in high school as the Polish Club sponsor. Aleks is the type of student and person that you never forget - kind, thoughtful, compassionate, intuitive, I can go on and on. He was always willing to go above and beyond, asked the important questions, and did it all with a smile. Aleks was a natural connector - there are few people at GBS that didn't know him - and was beloved by teachers, staff, and custodians, all who remember his loving personality. The world is a better place for Aleks having been in it, and I am a better person for having known him. To Aleks' family and friends - thank you for sharing Aleks with the world.

It is with great sadness that I have learned of Aleks´ passing. I had the good fortune of having Aleks in my freshman history class. I have always thought of him as being a kind, respectful and engaging student who took great interest in learning world history. He always contributed to class activities with thoughtful insights and often stayed after class to ask a few more questions after a lesson. He was a pleasure to have in class. Teachers can´t always remember former students, but there are many who cannot be forgotten. Aleks was one of the nicest students that I have had and he is easily recalled as a favorite of mine.

I also fondly recall having Agnes as a wonderful and engaging student and I was made aware of the many challenges that both Aleks and Agnes worked to overcome together with great determination. I send my heartfelt condolences and wishes for peace and comfort in your family. May Aleks´ memory be a blessing.

Aleks was a beloved student in my American Experience class during his junior year. We bonded right away because our class met during the last period of the day, and Aleks often stuck around to ask questions, continue discussions that had started in class, or just talk. Even though American Experience met every day, Aleks was a frequent flier in the Social Studies office during his free periods. I would love to say that he was there to see me, but Aleks connected with all his teachers, and his visits included stops at all their desks. Agnes, we had many conversations about you and how much you two loved and cared about each other. I know you brought your parents tremendous comfort in heaven by stepping up and taking care of Aleks after the loss of your mother and father. The world is in desperate need of people like Aleks right now. After 31 years in the classroom, Aleks stands out as one of the most memorable students of my entire career. Stacy Flannery

I am very sad to learn of Alex's passing. Alex had been a student of mine in Spanish 1 (as a freshman) and Spanish 4 (as a senior). I remember him for his easy-going way, a maturity beyond his years, and his friendliness towards everyone in the classroom. Alex and I often talked about cycling since we both enjoyed the open road as well as local paths. And, when Alex was a senior, we discussed his future plans. I truly appreciated Alex since he was comfortable chatting about his day and interests. He will truly be missed by all whose life he touched.

This has hung above my desk in the Training room at GBS since the day Aleks gave it to me. It feels like almost weekly that students ask us about our name signs and we get to talk about Aleks. He was just the most kind, gentle and loving soul. I am honored to get to have this piece of him with me forever and I so treasure memories of him that I will always hold. Agnes I am holding you close to my heart now. I always remember Aleks talking about you and how proud he was of you.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Aleks. He was an amazing student during his time in my history class. He was kind, curious, and always put his peers' success ahead of his own. Even after he was in my class, he would make it a point to stop by my office to ask how I was. It was these small moments of compassion that spoke to Aleks' character. He will be missed.

I am heartbroken to hear of the news of Aleks. He was such a kind and thoughtful young man. I loved having him in my class. As one of his high school Spanish teachers he and I would practice languages with one another. Aleks would help me learn a little Polish to impress my Polish fiancee at the time (we are now married and I know a lot more Polish now lol) and he would always try his best in Spanish class. He was a stand out student and human being. He will be missed dearly. May he rest in peace/niech spoczywa w pokoju/que descanse en paz. -Sr. Franson
