Alessandra "Sandy" Iavarone, a loving daughter and cherished member of the Merakey community, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, at the age of 69, in her home surrounded by her loving Merakey family.
Sandy was born in Philadelphia, PA and spent her formative years enveloped in the care of her devoted parents. Their nurturing home fostered in her a spirit that radiated kindness and compassion, a light that drew people to her. She attended Annunciation B.V.M. and was a 1973 graduate of St Maria Goretti Catholic High School.
In 2011, after the heartfelt loss of her parents, Sandy transitioned to the Merakey community. This new chapter was not just a change of residence but a blossoming of relationships. Her housemates became her family, a tapestry of bonds woven together by shared experiences, laughter, and resilience.
Throughout her life, Sandy found joy in simple pleasures. She particularly loved watching soap operas, finding solace and entertainment in the stories and characters that unfolded onscreen.
Her passing leaves an irreplaceable void, a silence that speaks volumes of the love and light she shared with those fortunate enough to know her. Friends, housemates, and acquaintances will forever remember her with fondness, each recalling a unique moment that encapsulates her gentle spirit.
Sandy was the beloved daughter of the late Augustine and Josephine (Lucca) Iavarone, a precious companion and dear friend to her housemates, and a dear friend to all in the Merakey community. A heartfelt thank you to the direct support professionals whose care was exceptional. Her Merakey family would like to thank the Bayada Home Care team for the excellent care and compassionate partnership they provided.
Friends and community members are invited to honor Sandy’s life beginning with a Visitation on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment thereafter at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sandy’s memory would be appreciated to Merakey USA, https://www.merakey.org/foundation/giving.
