Aletha Solomon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sellers Funeral Home, Inc. on Dec. 11, 2025.
ALETHA PEARL SOLOMON was born on June 10, 1930, in
Richmond, Virginia, to the late Henry Dowdy and Sallie Mae
Brailsford.
Aletha had a pet cow that she would ride to school, and she said
that cow would return home after taking her to school. Her cow
was named Mamie. Her uncle Matt and her great-grandmother
would send the cow back to school to get her when it was time for
her to come home.
Some of her fondest memories were living on the farm and gathering
eggs, milking the cows, laying in the grass and looking up at the
sky and marveling over the clouds.
She moved to Weirsdale, Florida in June 1965, and she moved to
Ocala Florida in 1968. She worked as a crossing guard in Ocala, a
job which she loved. At the age of 62 she retired from her job.
Louise Johnson started a study with Rebecca, Lee, and Paul.
Mother was going to the Church, then it dawned on her, "Why am
I going to this church and my children are going to the Kingdom
Hall?" So she began to study the Bible and was later baptized as
one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1978. Once she learned the truth she
would share it with her children, grands, friends, strangers, and
anyone that crossed her path. Literally, when she could no longer
go out and do field service, she would sit in her yard and when
someone crossed through to get to the other street she would have a
magazine and they would get a witness. In her 80s she got a smart
phone and there was no stopping her, she would text Bible verses to
all of her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Witness to friends
and strangers on Facebook.
Aletha was married twice. She married Henry Solomon on April
26, 1952. Aletha gave birth to eight children. In 2020, she lost her
secondborn son, Andrew Dowdy.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Solomon; son,
Andrew Dowdy; sister, Mary Lou Bell; and brother, John Tindal.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children, Spencer
McCoy Dowdy (Lois), Jimmy Garrett, Henrietta Daugherty, Daniel
Solomon (Barbara), Lee Melvin Solomon, Rebecca Rora (Wendell),
and Paul Solomon (Lisa); sister, Maddie Bannister (Willie); and
stepdaughter, Elease Solomon.
She was blessed to see and enjoy 21 grandchildren, a host of great-
grands, many great-great-grands, and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, and loving friends.
