Aletha Ranna Tarkington born December 29, 1942 of Oklahoma City, OK went to be with her Lord and Savior at 9:10 a.m. on Sunday August 11, 2024. She is preceded in death by: Parents Clawuel Weaver Freeman and Galdys Irene Ellis, Husband William Eugene Tarkington, Daughters Michelle Rene Donner and Staci Ann Matthesen.
Aletha was a deeply devoted Christian who found salvation in July of 1954 at the age of 12. She was patient, kind and warm always focused on trusting God. She led through the humble example of her faith spending her time in the church serving the Lord through the music and women's ministry. She was no stranger to the adversities of life as her counsel reflected steadfast commitment to love and honor God. In her final words she commends these scriptures as her focus through the trials of her life.
"I can do all things through Christ which strengthen me." Phil 4:13
"In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." 1 Thes 5:18
"Giving no offense in anything, that the ministry be not blamed." 2 Cor 6:3
"And he said unto me, it is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely." Rev 21:6
Aletha or mom/mema as she is best known, was fiercely dedicated to her family, she embraced fully the demands of teacher, guide, and protector. She is remembered for her humble demeanor and tender warmth. She was a loving wife of 57 years, devoted fully to her promises as partner to her husband and caregiver to her children. Always our comfort, she was the light to us all in the depth of hard times, loving abundantly and without prejudice or judgment. She embodied all that is good and true, in a wife and mother. She will be greatly missed. She leaves behind this quote so that we may carry comfort in the wisdom that guided her all of her days.
"I have seen yesterday, I am not afraid of tomorrow, and I love today! (Gladys Irene Freeman, 1984)"
Aletha is survived by: her son William Scott Tarkington, seven grandchildren Christopher Blake Tarkington, Lane Tye Matthesen, Lindsi Rana Schweer, Lauren Rene Matthesen, Landon Seth Matthesen, Ashleigh Marie Tarkington, and Emma Katheryn Tarkington, and six great grandchildren Abbott Matthesen, Annaleigh Matthesen, Adalyn Matthesen, Liam Schweer, Oaklyn Schweer, and Sutton Schweer.
"Momma, your loom is now silent, your canvas lay at rest, I will miss you dearly but I trust God knows what's best. The weaver has not finished me so steady I must stay, I give the choice to him, for the pattern he must lay, I will wait patiently until the shuttles final day, for then together we will be, resting in HIS name." -Son
