Alex Housden Obituary

Housden, Alex and Kaylee

Alex and Kaylee Housden, aged 20 and 16, passed away on November 28,2023.

Alex was born on May 28, 2003, in Winchester, VA. He was a 2021 graduate of Atkins High School and a Junior at Winston-Salem State University, majoring in Exercise Science. Alex was an outgoing young man with the ability to make anyone smile. He was devoted to helping others and fixing any problems one might have. On August 30, 2023, Alex proposed to his beautiful girlfriend, Lizbeth Reyes at Quarry Park. Lizbeth and Alex were high school sweethearts, and both were the love of each other's lives. Beyond spending every spare moment with Lizbeth and her family, Alex's world consisted of his friends and Professors at WSSU, his work family at Kohl's in Winston-Salem, his best friend and "brother," Savion Rankin, and his guinea pig, Teddy. Alex's hobbies included gaming with Savion, playing Halo, Fortnite, Borderlands, Minecraft, and Call of Duty, cuddling with Teddy and studying hard so he could be accepted into a Physician Assistant Program. Alex also enjoyed spending time with his family and working to support his love of purchasing vinyl records, accumulating Funko Pops (DC Marvel characters, horror movies, Big Bang Theory, Batman, Star Wars, and on and on), and building Star Wars and Batman Legos. Alex had an immense love of music and his favorite bands included Motionless in White, Black Veil Brides, Rammstein, and Michael Jackson, just to name a few.

Kaylee was born on March 22, 2007 in Winchester, VA. She was a Junior at Atkins High School. Kaylee was a vibrant young lady with lots of friends and a compassionate heart for others. She was active in Concert Choir and Color Guard. Kaylee's drive to be successful in Guard and enforce no one stepping on the flags was visible at every practice and performance ("Walk Around! Don't step on the flags!!!"). Kaylee could typically be found hanging out with Bookie Sumners, Valerie, in Mrs. Shoe's classroom, or with Mr. Becker. She always seemed to be accompanied by her besties Brie and Journee. Kaylee's favorite past times consisted of shopping, reading, doing TikTok videos, taking pics for Insta and Snap, and driving around in "Cathy" trying not to hit the curb while blasting music with the windows down, her and Brie waving to passing cars and confiscating traffic cones. Kaylee had recently reconnected with her dear friend, Angel, but they were "not dating", LOL! And no one will ever be able to forget the "Kayleeisms" such as Womp Womp, Bussin, Level 2, Girrrrlll, and Let's Get it Together, just to name a few. Kaylee was the loving (and aggravating) mother to Nuna her cat, and sister to Rowdy, the Golden Retriever.

These two children were the light of their mother's life. They will continue to look down from Heaven and be the angels that watch over their mother and their friends until we all meet again.

Alex and Kaylee were preceded in death by their loving grandfather, Steve Hedrick; and their adoring grandmother, Alice Housden. They are survived by their mother, Jennifer Housden of Winston-Salem; their grandmother, Susan Hedrick of Kernersville; their uncle, Kelly Hedrick (Andrea) of Kernersville; and extended family in Virginia which include dear cousins Shereen, Adrianna, and Jaden Ahmed and numerous friends.

The family will receive friends on, Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. A Celebration of Life for Alex and Kaylee will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 12 p.m. at Pinedale Christian Church, 3395 Peters Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem, NC 27127, with Rev. Debbie Layman and Rev. Dr. Steve Lofti officiating. A private family entombment will take place following the service.
