Alex G. Eversole, August 9, 1932, born to App and Cassie Pennington Eversole in Krypton, Perry County, Kentucky entered into the presence of the Lord on July 11, 2025, being 92 years, 11 months, and 2 days old.
Alex was preceded in death by his son, Dwight and daughter-in-law Karen; his parents, App and Cassie; his brother, James; and his sister, Sarah Lois Napier.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Golda Witt Eversole; son, Steven (Kathy) of London, Kentucky; daughter Alexis of Lexington; 1 brother, Delbert; 3 grandchildren: Leslie Wilder, Dwight David Eversole (Katherine), and Rebecca Rollins; 1 bonus granddaughter, Danessa Dodd; 3 great-grandchildren: Kaycie Wilder, Kelsey Wilder, and Kristan Eversole; 2 bonus great-grandchildren: Eden Dodd and Noah Alexander Dodd; and a host of nieces and nephews to mourn his passing.
Alex attended a two-room grade school, Krypton Grade School and graduated from Buckhorn High School. He was proud to be a Buckhorn alumnus. He was an outstanding student and basketball player, as well as playing baseball on the Krypton-Napfor team. Alex then began studying at Eastern Kentucky University, but left to join the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a radar technician rising to the level of staff sergeant. He left the air force with a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal as well as two years of college credit. He married Golda wearing his uniform in 1952 and they drove directly back to his air force base in Denver, Colorado. He subsequently served at a base in Youngstown, Ohio. After discharge Alex attended Eastern Kentucky University, obtaining a BS in Education.
Alex was a steadfast and dedicated educator for 36 years. Once certified to teach, he served as teacher at M.C. Napier High School, principal at Dennis Wooton Elementary School, assistant superintendent then superintendent of Perry County Schools, and finally, superintendent of Jenkins Independent Schools. He was actively involved in professional organizations, being instrumental in the passing of laws benefiting the children in Eastern Kentucky. Alex then worked as consultant with the Kentucky Department of Education as well as serving as a member of the Jenkins lndependent Board of Education, and as an associate of the Kentucky School Boards Association.
Alex was a member of the Krypton Lodge #905 for 53 years. He achieved the rank of Master Mason and the 32nd degree in the Scottish Rite with membership in Valley of Lexington Orient of Kentucky.
After full retirement, while education remained important to him the rest of his life, he turned his full attention to loving and supporting his family.
Private services were held at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Rd.
