Obituary
Alex Poulette, 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather fell asleep in the Lord on November 2, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones. Alex was born on November 13, 1933 in the small village of Peleta, Greece as the youngest of four brothers. In the fall of 1952, at the age of 18, he came to the United States with only eight dollars in his pocket and the determination to get an education. Alex attended Mississippi College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, while working nights at his uncle's restaurant and learning English along the way. To obtain his citizenship, Alex joined the U.S. Army and served two years abroad. As an accomplished Chemical Engineer, Alex's impressive career included roles at Tenneco Oil, Boeing, and Martin Marietta/Lockheed Martin with strategic oversight of the Titan Rocket Program.
While Alex was a self-made man, who took much pride in his career, it was his faith and great love for his family that were the two main passions in his life. In 1957, Alex's life changed forever when he was introduced to a young farm girl from rural Nebraska. A spark was lit and after two weeks of courtship a proposal was made. On July 20,1958 Alex Poulette and Sophia Chikos began their life's journey together. During their 64 year love story, Alex and Sophia were inseparable. Together they traveled extensively both domestically and internationally, including more than 20 trips to Greece during their retirement.
Alex had a generous spirit. He was a faithful steward of both the Assumption Greek Orthodox Cathedral and St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church and an active member of AHEPA. As one of the founding members of St. Catherine's in Greenwood Village, CO, Alex literally helped build the church from the ground up. In addition to his devotion to the Assumption Cathedral and St.Catherine's, Alex made it his mission to fully restore the church that existed on his family's property in Peleta, Greece. The restoration of St. John the Theologian Church was fully completed in 2021 during Alex's last visit to Greece.
When not taking care of his meticulous lawn, Alex could be found watching Alabama football (Roll Tide!), rooting for his Denver Broncos or spending time with his beloved family. Alex especially took great pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As their Papou, he played an active role in their lives. One of his greatest joys was being able to take care of his great-grandchildren, Theo and Nathan, as infants. His family will remember him as a faithful, devoted and good man who was generous with his love, wisdom and attention.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents Elias and Chrysoula; brothers Jim, Greg and Nick. He is survived by his adoring wife, Sophia; their children, Christy (Bill) Howell and Lee (Elaine) Poulette; grandchildren, Kenneth (Taylor) Howell, Alexis (Anthony) LaFave, Nicolette (Scott) Bearden, and Brittani (Gorgy) Alhasoon; and great-grandchildren, Theo, Nathan, Alex, Carmine, Brooklyn and Aristea.
A Trisagion will be held for Alex Wednesday 11/9, at 10 am, at St. Catherine's Greek Orthodox Church 5555 S Yosemite St, Greenwood Village, CO 80111. Funeral Service to follow at 10:30 am.
Memorial contributions in Alex's name may be sent to: St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church or Assumption Cathedral.

All my love and deepest condolences to the Poulette family. Alex was a wonderful man and I have so many great memories that I will cherish always. Especially of him pinching my cheeks every time he saw me when I was young.
May his memory be eternal.

Alex was the most thoughtful, kind and generous family friend. His presence at any occasion brightened up the room with his heartwarming greetings and infectious laughter. I have so many loving and amazing memories of Alex while growing up in Denver. Also, I shared memorable holidays with Alex in Peleta. He will be greatly missed and always deeply loved!!
