Alexander "Chumpy" Ciambriello died Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ. He was 87.
Alex was born on October 5, 1936 in Stirling, NJ, where he was a lifelong resident and son to the late Lillian (Wagner) and Innocenzio Ciambriello.
He enlisted in the Army at age 23 before serving in the National Guard. Alex started working at a young age and was known locally for owning and operating Al's Luncheonette on Main Avenue for many years. He then worked at the Millington Nursery in commercial landscaping until he retired.
Alex was a volunteer for the Long Hill Township First Aid Squad for over twenty years, serving as Captain for several. He had a passion for cooking. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson across the country with his wife, and was an avid horseback rider, riding horses around the world. He loved to exercise and stay fit, lifting weights and running his whole life.
He was pre-deceased by his sisters, Katherine Cutrone, Lillian Pace and Rosemarie Calleo.
Alex is survived by the love of his life, wife Karen (Boos) Ciambriello, his two daughters Amy Ciambriello and her husband Michael Pannullo, and Alexis Ciambriello, and his two grandchildren Michael and Cameron.
Visitation will be Friday, November 24, 2023 from 4:00 -7:00 PM at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home 1012 Valley Road, Gillette, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday November 25, 2023 at The Shrine of St. Joseph's, 1050 Long Hill Road, Stirling, NJ at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, Stirling, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made to the Long Hill Township First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 145, Gillette, NJ 07933. When I was a student at Stirling Junior High, I saw handsome Alex Ciambriello in his military uniform, wearing sideburns, and riding his motorcycle. I immediately had a crush on him, and have always remembered him.
