Alexander J. "Al" Harrison

Alexander J. "Al" Harrison, 82, of Warren, PA., and formerly of Lake Worth, Florida. Al was born June 14, 1942, in Warren, PA. He was the son of Richard W. and Barbara Morrison Harrison. He was a Warre area resident most of his life. He was a 1960 graduate of Warren Area High School. He received an associate degree in Police Science and Administration from Los Angeles City College, Los Angeles, CA., in 1963. He was a 1973 graduate of Broward County Police Academy, located in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He was employed for 2 years at Hillsboro Beach Police Department and in 1975, transferred to the Lauderdale Lakes Police Department, where he was awarded the Jim Moon Memorial Award as Outstanding Young Law Enforcement Officer, for the. Year of 1976, by the Lauderdale Lakes Jaycees.
He was employed as a police officer with the City of Warren Police Department from 1979 until his retirement in June of 2002.
After his retirement, he worked part time for the Warren County Court System as a booking officer, where he took photos and fingerprinting of persons, working there for 8 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was Honorably discharged after serving in Southeast Asia as a Sergeant E-5. He was a member of Holy Redeemer R.C. Church, a former pastoral council member, and a Eucharistic Minister. A member of the Warren, and Erie County Cursillo Movement, since 1980, Warren American Legion Post 135 where he was a member since 1964. He was a member and Past President of the Fraternal Order of Police, Warren City Lodge #83, and former member of the Warren Players Club in the 1970's & 80's. Life member of Vietnam Veterans Post #77, (John Gertsch Memorial Home Associate), where he served as Commander from 2011 to 2014, served with their funeral honor and color guard, education chairman and post chaplain. In March of 2008, he received Veteran of the Year award from Warren County United Veterans Council where he served as Chaplain. He served from 2001 to 2010, as an instructor for AARP "Safe Driver Program" in Warren, PA. He loved motorcycling and in 2006, he would participate in the "Rolling Thunder" with a group of friends, riding to the Wall in Washington, D.C. Memorial Day weekend.
Prior to his police employment, he was employed in Radio Broadcasting field in Atlanta, GA., and Foley, AL., returned to Warren, PA., and worked at radio stations in Kane, PA., and WNAE-WRRN in Warren and the former Leo D. Gibson Funeral Home. Upon returning to Warren and after his retirement from Warren Police Department, he was employed part-time with the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Ann Harrison and her spouse, Hannah Miljevich of Warren, PA. several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann Austin Harrison, whom he married August 8, 1987, who died September 19, 2002, 1 Brother – Richard Harrison, 5 Sisters – Barbara Lou Harrison, Patricia Cummings, Mary Ann Hughes, Rita Marie Highhouse, Joan Harrison.
Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA., on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 5 to 8 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Redeemer R.C. Church, 11 Russell Street, Warren, PA., with Fr. Thomas Suppa, retired priest and lifelong friend, officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph R.C. Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by members of the Clarendon, Sheffield, Warren V.F.W. funeral honor guard and member of the U.S. Army Personnel.
