Alexander L. Hasse, 22, passed away July 20, 2025 in Tucson, Arizona. He was born January 22, 2003 in Hazelcrest, Illinois, the son of Larry Hasse and Lubov Antonova.
Alexander attended grade school at Francis Xavier Ward in Chicago, and graduated from Ogden International High School in 2021.
In his early years, he earned his black belt in taekwondo in 2014, showcasing his discipline and strength. Alexander's athleticism shone brightly on the basketball court as he played for the unbeatable FXW team.
His love for winter sports began at the tender age of 2 when he first hit the slopes on skis. By 8, he had mastered skiing, but switched to snowboarding, mastering the mountains once again.
Alexander's childhood was filled with simple joys: he adored his Garfield stuffed toy, indulged in imaginative play with Pokémon and toy soldiers, and reveled in the thrill of digging "the biggest hole" at any sandy beach he could find.
As he grew, so did his interests. The 4th of July fireworks, biking, and skateboarding around the city were among his favorite pastimes, along with visiting museums and theatres. Music, too, held a special place in Alex's heart. His eclectic taste ranged across various genres, with classic rock holding the top spot. At the age of 11, he picked up the guitar, and by his 8th-grade talent show, he was ready to perform. His musical journey flourished at the School of Rock, where he honed his skills and performed at renowned venues like Schubas, Beat Kitchen, and Reggie's, not to mention numerous Chicago street festivals. His rendition of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" will be remembered as a highlight of his performances.
Travel was another of Alex's loves. Russia held a cherished place in his heart, a country where he created lasting memories with friends and relatives.
During the 2020 lockdown, Alex discovered a passion for cooking. This newfound interest guided him toward the hospitality industry after high school, where he eagerly absorbed knowledge and skills.
In 2023, Alexander embarked on a new chapter in sunny Tucson, Arizona. There, he found his happy place. He cherished his adopted cat, 2%, and found joy in the nearness of both hiking trails and mountains.
Alexander continued pursuing his career in the hospitality industry – he started waiting tables at Roadhouse Cinemas, and then seized an opportunity bussing at Bata, a fine dining restaurant. He was thrilled to have the opportunity to be on the Bata team in any capacity, and always spoke of how much he was learning and how much he loved his co-workers. At Bata, he was able to witness how a top chef kitchen operates which led him to the realization - he wanted to be a chef. Alexander began looking into culinary schools and enrolled in Sommelier classes as a start when his life got interrupted.
He will be dearly missed by his parents, Larry Hasse and Lubov Antonova; his God parents, Igor and Milena Tarasuk; grandparents, Larry and Roberta Hasse Sr., Mike and Janet Young, and Valentin Zanin and Nadejda Bunina; uncle, Randy Hasse; aunt, Sara Lawson; cousins, Kayla Michau and Kiernan Lawson; his best friend, Alexzander Krzysztof Rak-Balzer; and by many friends across the United States and Russia.
A fundraiser has been organized to help Alexander's parents with the financial cost. Family and friends who wish to donate may do so here: https://gofund.me/c9fc1f13
