Alexander Hawai Ip..Age 44
Alex died one month after his 44th birthday. We loved him and now we mourn him.
He was our only son, born June 13th, 1979. He was a big baby, at 9.5 pounds. By birth he was a Gemini-Goat, meaning he was gentle. He kept pretty much to himself and lived a happy-go-lucky life. He loved table games, and the last several years of his life, he participated in Las Vegas World Series of Poker Satellite Tournaments, and finished in the top four percent this year.
He went to Pioneer Elementary and St. Joachim Catholic School for his primary education, then received his high school diploma from Logan High School in Union City. He chose Evergreen College of Olympia, Washington for his tertiary education. He graduated with a BA in 4 years, and participated as a swimmer. His specialty was the 200 meter butterfly, which was once described as "the lunatic event" due to its difficulty. He furthered his education with UNLV in their MBA Hospitality Management program at the Las Vegas campus. Alex loved the outdoors, and he was an Eagle Scout. He also achieved the junior black belt in Taekwondo in his youth.
Alex was well loved by all his family, and he loved us all back with more. He was respectful, helpful, and devoted to friends and family. He blossomed as a para-educator in the last four years. He had a ready smile which everyone remembered, along with his quick wit. He was opinionated and could present himself eloquently with words, sometimes impatiently.
His death was sudden, just like both his grandparents. His health wasn't great, and the cause is still unknown, but the end result is the same – he is still gone. It appears that he did not suffer. He just completed a family reunion Caribbean cruise several days prior, and that will be our fond happy memory of him forever. He really enjoyed his family on the cruise and in all our past ski trips, vacations, and our frequent gatherings.
Alex left behind his parents, Andrew and Mary Ip, sisters DeAnne Daly and Emileigh Ip Harrington, and brothers-in-law Joe Daly and Brian Harrington. His four nephews are: Oliver Daly, Theodore Daly, Miles Harrington, and the new Leroy Harrington whom he had not met or held in his arms like he did with the other nephews. He will be remembered as an entertaining and fun loving uncle.
A Memorial service will be held for Alex on Tuesday, August 08, 2023, from 5:30PM - 8:00PM, at Holy Sepulchre - St. Michael chapel, 1051 Harder Road, Hayward, CA 94542. There will be a Memorial Liturgy at 6:15PM.
