Alexander Lopez, known affectionately as Alex or "Turtle" (IYKYK), passed away on December 13, 2024, in Alpine, Texas, at the age of 32. Born on September 23, 1992, Alex demonstrated a deep commitment to serving his community from an early age, which guided both his personal and professional life. Alex graduated from Van Horn High School and furthered his education at Sul Ross State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree, specializing in criminal justice. This academic foundation propelled him into a dedicated career as a deputy for the Alpine Police Department, then served as a School Resource Officer (SRO) at Alpine High School employed by the Brewster County Sheriff's Department, deeply caring for the safety and well-being of the students he protected. Most currently, Alex served our community as dispatcher for the Brewster County Sheriff's Department, where his compassionate nature and sense of duty were evident.

A passionate advocate for his community, Alex's life was marked by memories of his constant desire to help others. He was known for his loving spirit and remarkable ability to connect with those around him. Whether it was through his work or in his personal life, Alex made a lasting impact on many individuals and families.

On September 7, 2024, he celebrated one of his proudest accomplishments, marrying his beloved wife, Arely Lopez. Their bond exemplified love and partnership, and together they cherished spending time with family and friends. Alex had a variety of interests, including golfing, fishing, and enjoying music from artists like Peso Pluma, Grupo Firme and Pantera, as well as the loud tunes that brought him joy. One of the most important and talked-about past times was definitely going on ride-alongs with his brother-in-blue, Ismael Hernandez. Trips back home to Van Horn, Texas, to visit his mom, grandma, and sibling and to catch up with childhood friends was also a highlight to his life. He was an ardent supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and displayed pride in "The Thin Blue Line," symbolizing his commitment to law enforcement.

Alex is survived by his loving wife, Arely Lopez; his grandmother, Socorro Lopez; his sister, Destinee Acosta; his brother, Marc Acosta; and his cherished fur baby, Bingo. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lupe Acosta Lopez, and his grandfather, Antonio "Tony" Lopez.

The community mourns the loss of a true servant leader who dedicated his life to making a difference. Alex Lopez will be remembered for his kindness, his unwavering dedication to others, and the loving memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him. His legacy will continue to inspire all who were touched by his life.

Visitation for Alex will take place at the Alpine Memorial Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, December 27, 2024, beginning at 12:00 PM. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place at 7:00 PM, also at the Alpine Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, located at 209 W. Sul Ross Avenue in Alpine, Texas. The next day, Saturday, December 28, 2024, the funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Van Horn, Texas (308 Almond Street, Van Horn, Texas, 79855) beginning at 10:00 AM (Central Standard Time) with interment thereafter at Van Horn Cemetery.
