Obituary of Alexander Toy
April 30, 2024
Alexander F. Toy passed away on Tuesday, Apr 30, 2024 at the Brooklyn Hospital Center in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. He was 30 years old.
Mr. Toy was born in New York City. He graduated from Grace Church School, the Dwight School, and the Rochester Institute of Technology.
He was an Associate Teacher, Kindergarten, at Grace Church School. He loved and was beloved by his young charges in the Green Room at Grace Church School. He loved his colleagues dearly.
Mr. Toy also wrote and performed sketch comedy with Fresh Out the Box, a sketch comedy group, at the Players Theater in Greenwich Village, always with great joy and gusto.
His love for working with children and making people laugh was nurtured at the Frost Valley YMCA camp in Claryville, NY, where he spent many years as a camper and subsequently, a counselor and Village Chief.
He was enthusiastic about life, a fully-engaged and loving man, gifted in many ways, with many deeply treasured friends from every chapter of his life.
Mr. Toy is survived by his parents, Marian and Edward Toy, and his sister Francesca Toy. He is also survived by his aunts Kathy Reilly, Sandra Youla and Vivian Toy; his uncles Charles Toy and Chris Langston; and his cousins Abigail and Dexter Reilly, Alana Toy, and Aidan, Patrick and Kathleen Langston.
A funeral service will take place on May 8, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at Grace Church in Manhattan.
In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate memorial contributions to Grace Church School, which will be reimagining and renovating its Early Childhood rooftop playdeck in Alex's memory. The Toy Deck will be a place for generations of students to laugh and learn and play, a fitting tribute for someone who helped us all to do the same. Gifts can be made online via the , or by writing "Toy Deck" in the memo line of a check.

I didnt know Alex but I knew his family and friends growing up. They spoke so highly of him, told me of his jokes and his kindness. The kind of guy that makes people say "man you gotta meet him he's amazing". I know how much he changed the lives of my friends and saw his incredible comedy. All I can offer is a testament to his positivite impact on peoples lives as ive seen it first hand in those he knew.

Alex was absolutely hilarious and larger than life when he joined our improvisation group. He was always ready to play but was also a great listener and easy person to be with- I'm going to miss him.
