On May 6, 2025, the world lost a local legend, Alexander “Turk” Turczynski. Born in Gardner, Massachusetts on December 28, 1945, to Alexander Jr. and Virginia Turczynski, Alex-- fondly known as "Turk" by his friends and "Brother" by his family-- was a man who filled every room with his enlighten smile, uplifting spirit and thoughtful nature. He was a caring individual who always prioritized his family above all, a trait that endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Turk was a master barber by profession, a title he wore with pride. He joined his father in 1954 as second chair at Turks Barber Shop. In 2015 Turk's son, John, joined the barbershop to continue the family tradition. His barber shop was not just a place for a trim, but also a hub of camaraderie and community chatter. Turk's love for life extended beyond his profession. He was an avid lover of hot rods and classic cars, fishing off the beach shoreline, and golfing. His adventurous spirit took him surfing and skiing around the world. He spent his summers in Seabrook, NH at his family's beach house as a surf lifeguard in Hampton Beach. In the winter, his passion for hockey led him to become one of the founders of the Gardner Youth Hockey Association, a testament to his dedication to his community. He was also a member of the North County Hot Rod Club, Elks Club, PACC, and the American Legion.
In his personal life, Turk was a loving husband to Betsy for 50 years, whom he married on May 11, 1975. Their love story was one for the books, filled with laughter, shared hobbies, amazing vacations and an unwavering devotion to each other that stood the test of time. He was a loving father to Tracy and John, father-in-law to Tanya and Natasha, and a doting grandfather to Audrey and AJ. His family brought him the greatest joy, and he deeply cherished every moment spent with them. His infectious humor and legendary storytelling left a lasting impression, ensuring that there was never a dull moment when Turk was around. Turk was preceded in death by his father, Alexander Jr., his mother, Virginia, and his brother, Edward.
As we mourn the loss of Turk, let us also celebrate a life well-lived, full of laughter, love, and countless adventures. We invite you to share your memories and photos of Turk on the memorial page at www.mackfamilyfh.com. His life was a testament to the power of love, humor, and the human spirit, and these stories will keep his spirit alive in our hearts.
