Alexandra C. Millas, 99, of Longmeadow, passed away peacefully and entered into the kingdom of heaven on Sunday June 1, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Christos and Chrisoula (Speliotopoulos) Coretsopoulos, and the beloved wife of Thomas E. Millas, who predeceased her in 2005.
Alexandra was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on August 26, 1925. She graduated from Classical High School in Springfield, Massachusetts. She earned an Associates Degree in early childhood education from Springfield Technical Community College in 1968, and worked with deaf children at Willie Ross School for the Deaf in Longmeadow. She then worked until her retirement at Milton Bradley Company in East Longmeadow, MA. Sandra and Tom were one of the 12 founding couples of St Luke's Greek Orthodox Church in East Longmeadow, when it was established in 1977. Alexandra worked tirelessly for her church, giving up vacations and many weekends to raise funds to build it, and then contributing to the outreach programs within the church.
Tom and Sandra were married in 1947, and in 1951 they decided to build their home in Longmeadow. She would recall how, after leaving work, she would go to the lumber store, with lumber in hand and travel by bus to the building site in Longmeadow, while her mother would bring the dinner for them as they labored with love to build the family home; the home that she lived in for the next 72 years. She was a dedicated member of St Luke's and a devout Orthodox Christian, living her life in quiet humility. She dearly loved her children, sacrificing to send all three to college. She adored her five grandchildren, and was immensely proud of them and all their accomplishments. She was thrilled to meet her great grandchild Nora, whom she lovingly called Lady Nora.
Alexandra is survived by her children Christina and husband Gary Colello, Stephen Millas and wife Diane, and daughter in law Diane Millas. She was predeceased by her son Paul in 2024. She leaves grandchildren Stephanie Colello and husband Dan Haughton, Andrew Colello, Alexandra Colello, Thomas Millas and wife Stacie, Michael Millas and wife Caitlin, and great granddaughter, Nora Millas; nephews Phil Coret, Chris and wife Lynn Coretsopoulos, Gary Millas and wife Renee, niece Kathy Bowman; and several great nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her brother Nicholas Coretsopoulos.
Calling hours will be Wednesday June 4 from 5-7 PM at Forastiere Funeral Home, 220 North Main St East Longmeadow, MA. A Greek Orthodox Funeral service will be held on Thursday June 5 at 10:00 AM at St Luke's Greek Orthodox Church, at 400 Prospect St, East Longmeadow. Burial to follow at Longmeadow Cemetery.
