Alexandria Cathey Gressette, 87, wife of Dr. William Nathan Gressette, Jr., passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023. She is now in heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with whom she walked and faithfully served for decades. Born in Portland, TN, she was the daughter of the late Henry Alexander Cathey, Jr. and the late Minnie Bee White Cathey.
Alexandria graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Elementary Education and committed to accepting the first job offer she received. Providentially, that first job took her to New Mexico where she taught school and met her future husband, Bill Gressette, to whom she was married for 63 years until his death in 2020. As a young wife she worked to support her husband during his dental school training and throughout his Endodontics Residency. As a mother with three young children, she came to a knowledge of God's saving grace in her life and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
Alexandria expressed her passions by serving as a mentor in the Women's Prison Ministry, teaching Sunday School and VBS, being a Study Group leader in Bible Study Fellowship and hosting Christmas dinners at her home for the seniors at Standing Springs. She was a competitive tennis player and a member of the state champion Holly Tree doubles team. She loved dogs of all kinds and could name most any breed. Alexandria was an avid and fearless traveler who visited every corner of the globe.
Alexandria was a member of Standing Springs Baptist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, founding member of the Christian Women's Club and the Greenville Women's Dental Society. Mostly, she was the epitome of a loving, joyful, enthusiastic grandmother (Mimi) to her 7 grandchildren. She truly delighted in them and they knew it.
Alexandria is survived by her daughter, Cathey Holt and her husband, Tim; son, Rev. William Nathan Gressette, III and his wife, Donna; son, John David Gressette; sister, Margaret Anne Fincher; brother-in-law, John Thomas Gressette; grandson, Scott Holt and his wife, Lauren; grandson, Gressette Holt; granddaughter, Andria Holt; granddaughter, SeraCarolyn Holt; grandson, Nathan Gressette and his wife, Brooklyn; grandson, Joseph Gressette; granddaughter, Sara Elizabeth Gressette; three great-grandchildren, Isla Rose Gressette, Abigail Lilly Gressette, and Theodore James Holt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Thursday, August 17, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Standing Springs Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in the West End Cemetery, St. Matthews, South Carolina.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Park Ridge Baptist Church, 5099 Trotter Ridge Ct, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

I am sorry about the passing of your sweet mother. I´ll never forget her sweet smile and the positivity surrounding her. She was such a good friend and encourager to me. I still share with my Bible study groups about her being in a grocery store and someone asking her about why she seemed so happy and she had the opportunity to share Christ. My prayers are with each of you. Love you all.
