Alexis Darlene Gibson

Alexis Gibson, 77, of Milford, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.
Alexis was born on May 3, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Joseph and Margaret Pentz. She enjoyed spending summers in her youth with her family on Duck Lake, and often stayed at the lake with her friend Judy while her parents worked during the week. Alexis graduated from Cass Tech High School in Detroit in 1963. After graduation, Alexis married the love of her life, Jim Gibson on October 12, 1963 and established their home as a longtime resident of both Milford and Highland, Michigan.
She worked for Ford Motor Co. at the Wixom plant before she and Jim started their family. While their sons Jim and Joe were young, she stayed home to raise the boys. In 1983, she returned to work at the General Motors Proving Grounds. While at GM, she spent time in Personnel, the Safety Lab, and several other departments before retiring in 2003. Her activities included giving group tours at the Proving Grounds, helping as an editor for the GM newsletter, "The Grindings", and general administrative activities to support the departments.
Alexis had a large group of friends and always kept up with relationships to maintain lifelong friendships. She had friend groups from card club, water aerobics/lunch, cruising, and Florida. She was thankful and cherished her involvement in the lives of her grandchildren. In retirement, she and James focused their lives on their grandchildren and travel. One of her favorite trips was a 50th Anniversary cruise to the Caribbean with Jim, Joe, and their families. She also enjoyed trips to Alaska, Europe, the Canadian Rockies, many Caribbean destinations, and a few trans-Atlantic trips. She and James wintered in Ocean Village in Fort Pierce, Florida for many years until her beloved James passed away in July of 2022.
Always the one that kept everyone together, Alexis will be greatly missed. She loved to organize family gatherings and was an eternal optimist. She was the true anchor of her family and for all her relationships throughout her life.
Beloved wife of the late Jim for 58 years. The loving mother of James (Jim) Gibson Jr. (Rene) and Joe Gibson (Catherine). Proud grandmother of Ben, James, Sophie, Rebecca, Ian, and Sam. Dear sister of Ann O'Rourke (the late William).
A celebration of life memorial service will be planned for early summer and announced at a later date.
