Alfonso Cochran Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by H. H. Roberts Mortuary, Inc. on Mar. 20, 2026.
Mr. Alfonso Cochran, Jr.

Sunrise: July 25, 1928

Sunset: March 8, 2026

Alfonso "Al" Cochran, Jr. was born in Praco, Alabama to the late Rev. Alfonso Cochran, Sr. and Mrs. Cora Cochran. He was the youngest of four children born to this union. His mother passed away when he was just two years old, a loss that shaped the early years of his life.

In 1943, at the age of 14, Alfonso enlisted in the United States Navy as a Seamen First class, proudly serving his country during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1946. Following his military service, he built a long and dedicated career, working in Vallejo, California and Seattle, Washington, before retiring in 1985 from the veterans Administration Center in Cincinnati, Ohio after 40 years of federal service.

Upon moving to Dayton, Ohio in 2000, Al became a devoted member of Ethan Temple Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was baptized in 2004, and served as a deacon in later years. Al's faith and commitment to his church community remained central to his life in the years that followed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Louise C. Johnson, Hazel Taylor and Lillie Mae Cochran.

Al leaves to cherish his memory his sons: Keth Cochran and Anthony Alexander, his daughter Stacy Cochran Thomas and a host of relatives and friends.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at Ethan Temple Seventh-day Adventist Church.
