Alfonso Valdez, age 92, passed on to his eternal home, to be with our Lord and Savior on June 5, 2024.

 

Alfonso was born on April 19, 1932 in La Villita, New Mexico, a son of Cornelio and Cruzita Valdez.

 

He married Rachel Salazar August 4, 1952 in San Juan, New Mexico.

 

Alfonso lived his early life in La Villita, New Mexico and then joined the Army and served his country honorably in the Korean War.  He then returned home and in 1952 he and his wife Rachel, moved to Utah.  Alfonso and Rachel lived the rest of their lives in Utah.

 

Alfonso was a loving Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Brother.

 

Alfonso was a hard worker and retired after a long career at Hill Air Force Base, Utah.  He also use to like to fish, hunt, and camp with the family and various friends.  He also liked to travel back east to various destinations with his wife Rachel and they also liked their Wendover trips and an occasional Las Vegas Trip.  They also vacationed in Hawaii and Alaska.  Their most cherished vacations were their trips back home to La Villita, New Mexico to visit with numerous relatives and friends.

 

Surviving are their sons; Jose Glenn (Teri) Valdez, Wilber Valdez (Dolores†)  John Valdez (Karen), Tom Valdez, and their daughter Norma Valdez; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; sisters; Alisandra Martinez, Irene Valdez, brothers; Clyde (Lucille) Valdez, Ruben (Jenny) Valdez, David (Grace) Valdez and numerous other relatives and friends.

 

Alfonso was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Valdez, parents Cornelio and Cruzita Valdez, sisters; Frutosa Dupree, Edumenia Martinez, Criselda Trujillo, Mary Garcia, brothers; Rosinaldo Valdez, Floyd Valdez, Eddie Valdez, Miguel Valdez, and Richard Valdez.

 

Grandchildren and great-grandchildren serving as pallbearers, Eric Valdez, Michael Valdez, AJ Fraga, Clint Valdez, Tommy Espinoza, Derrick Espinoza,  Daniel Espinoza, Kai Valdez and Tyrese Holbrook.

 

A special thanks to the Wahlen Veterans Home in Ogden, for the kind and gentle care they gave our dad.   Also a special thanks to Bristol Hospice for their kind and gentle care for our dad as well.

 

Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday June 13, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 Chapel Street, Layton, Utah. Friends may visit family Wednesday June 12 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.  A vigil with Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m.

 

Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society,
