Alfonso Mendoz Vasquez was born to Emeterio and Florencia Vasquez on October 30, 1943, in Ranger, TX. The Lord called him home on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 81 years of age.
Alfonso was known to many as Al, Fonzie, or Poncho. He lived in Ranger in the early years of his life, served in the Army and National Guard, moved to the metroplex where he worked for Tappan Appliances, and when he retired worked as a security guard. One of his proudest accomplishments was working for Tappan for over 20 years and getting an award for never missing a day of work.
He was loving, kind, and always had a good story to tell. He never met a stranger because he could always strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved to listen to music, ride around in his black pickup truck, go fishing, and spoiling his grandkids. Alfonso is survived by his wife Debbie Vasquez, daughters: Amy Vasquez and partner Many Hernandez, Melissa “Pooh” Vasquez, Rita Hendrix and husband Jason Hendrix, stepchildren: Jason Honea and wife Kristen Honea, Rebecca Pope and husband Mike Pope, grandchildren: Peanut, Pops, Missy, Bella, Lilliy, Milly, Iza, Chico, Nolan, Alyssa, Sarah, great grandson Addonis, sister Fern Vasquez, brothers Luis Vasquez and Junior Vasquez, and numerous nieces and nephews. Alfonso is preceded in death by father Emerterio Vasquez, mother Florencia Vasquez, brothers Cruz Vasquez and John Vasquez, sisters Nancy Mayo, Hilary Vasquez, and Teresa Ponce.
Alfonso also had close family friends that meant a great deal to him and helped care for him. He was very blessed to have Jesus Veloz Jr. (J-Bird) and Chris Washington be a part of his life.
A special thank you to Centerwell nurses, Crystal R., Krystal S., and Erica, physical therapist Gami, and former nurses Sondra and Cecil. We also want to give thanks to the Ranger Fire Department and EMT’s for their quick response and efforts.
Rest in peace our sweet husband, dad, grandpa, uncle, and brother, you will be missed dearly.
