Alford Joseph Olinde

1940 - 2021

Alford (Al) Joseph Olinde, age 81, of Salisbury, Maryland, died Friday, September 10, 2021 at home with his family by his side after a lengthy battle with renal failure. Al was born February 1, 1940 in New Roads, Louisiana and was preceded in death by his beloved wife Glenda Henderson Olinde; parents John Baptist and Edna Soulier Olinde; brothers John Baptist (JB) Olinde and Donald Olinde; and nieces and nephew Cindy Crochet, Mona Olinde Robichaux, and Bart Crochet. He is survived by his children Gregory Olinde (Emmajane) of Fruitland, MD; Geoffrey Olinde (Siobhan) of Arlington, VA; and Renee Hood (Bruce) of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren whom he adored and loved spending time with Grace, Victoria, and Mason Olinde; Sophia and Keeley Hood; and Willa and Charles (Charlie) Olinde; sister Barbara Crochet (Alan); a very special nephew David Olinde who was like a son to him; and many other nieces and nephews located throughout Louisiana and Texas. Known as Paps to all, he was a veteran of the poultry industry earning degrees at Louisiana State University and University of Louisiana Lafayette. During his career he held many positions, but his favorite was in poultry genetic sales with Avian Farms. As a south Louisianian, he had a passion for cooking and entertaining. He won the Crisfield Crab Cooking Contest two consecutive years with his crab cake and soft crab recipes and then judged the contest. Al was a very social man and a friend to many. He loved his membership in the Ocean City Marlin Club where he knew many people from his time as owner of his restaurant, Al's Louisiana Kitchen, in West Ocean City, MD. After retiring, many local charitable organizations benefited from his passion for entertaining and cooking Cajun cuisine. He also enjoyed playing golf, boating and fishing with family and friends. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home located at 501 Snow Hill Road in Salisbury, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church located at 535 Riverside Drive, Salisbury, MD on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Parsons Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Coastal Hospice & Palliative Care located at 2604 Old Ocean City Road in Salisbury, MD, 21804 or to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (Building Fund) located at 514 Camden Avenue, Salisbury, MD, 21801.
