Alford Lee Stephenson III, age 77, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, July 19, 2025. He accepted Christ as his Savior on the first Sunday in March of 1975, and from that day forward, lived a life rooted in faith, kindness, and generosity.
Lee was born on January 21, 1948, in Astoria, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 wonderful years, Lynda Faye Bridger Stephenson; his parents, Alford Lee Stephenson II and Violet Louie Stephenson; and his cherished grandson, Joshua Conrad.
A longtime resident of South Macon, Georgia, Lee made his home there for 56 years before moving to Roberta, Georgia, in 2003. He graduated from Willingham High School in 1965 and later earned an associate degree from Macon Junior College. Lee proudly served his country as a U.S. Navy veteran during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1968. A man of remarkable work ethic, he often held two or even three jobs-delivering newspapers and cutting hair in his father's barbershop, Amazing Lee's, in addition to working as an insurance agent and a wrought iron steel worker in the construction industry. He ultimately retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years of service as a supervisor. Despite his tireless work, Lee often encouraged others to seek a life balanced with one job, so they could better enjoy time with their family and friends. He believed that the pursuit of money alone was misaligned with the Word of God. Deeply devoted to his church, Lee served in ministry through music, sharing the joy of gospel with local nursing homes and senior communities. He recorded two gospel CDs and co-wrote and recorded two others, using his voice and testimony to uplift those around him.
Lee is survived by his sons, Clinton "Doc" Stephenson (Andrea) and Jason Stephenson (Lori); grandson, Jake Stephenson (Rebecca); his siblings, Stephany M. Archibald (Sandy), Sue Ellen Pierce (Roger), James H. Stephenson (Amy), and Jamie Stephenson (Marilyn); as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Hill Congregational Community Church, 881 Avera Road, Roberta, GA. Interment will take place privately at a later date.
