Afred Louis Applewhite

November 20, 1937 – October 8, 2025

Alfred Louis Applewhite, age 87, a resident of Bogalusa, LA, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Slidell Memorial Hospital.

Louis was the youngest of 10 children and raised in the Richardson Town neighborhood. In his younger years, Louis was an avid softball player. He also had a love of "running dogs" especially walkers. In later years, he enjoyed trail riding on his wagon with family and friends. He worked at Bogalusa Paper Mill for 40 plus years and retired and since then he and his wife Diane had a love for auctions and thrifting.

He is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Kevin) Doell of Rochester, NY; his son, Brandon Applewhite (Kristi Jenks) of Angie, LA; three granddaughters, Candi Applewhite of Sandy Hook, MS; Brittany (Blake) Lam of Covington, LA; and Emily Doell of Erie, PA; four grandsons, Glen (Bethany) Seal of Angie, LA; Lee (Evelyn) Applewhite of Thomas, LA; Ira Applewhite of Henleyfield, MS; and Brayden Applewhite of Angie, LA; and; twelve great grandchildren; and daughters in law, Karen Applewhite (Joe Wheat) of Bogalusa, LA and Glenda Applewhite of Henleyfield. He is also survived by lifelong friend, Keli Ard and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Applewhite; his sons, Robbie and Joey Applewhite; his parents, Vencie and Hazel Applewhite; sisters, Ophelia Averette, Willie Mae Jenkins, Meita Pigott, Lois Tynes, and Neita Varnado; his brothers, Arthur Ray, Austin, Albert, and Wayne Applewhite; and a daughter in law, Kaylee Applewhite.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 20, 2025, at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 9:00 A.M. until time for the services at 11:00 A.M. Bro. Harold Gaddy will officiate the service.
