It is with profound sadness that the family of Alfred “Fred, Freddie” Bender announce his peaceful passing on the 30th of April at the age of 89 years.
Immigrating from post-war Germany in 1953 as a young man, Fred arrived in Canada with the lessons of resiliency, a deep love of family, and a gift for music. Entertaining, singing, yodelling traditional folk songs as well as participating in many choirs filled his heart with joy.
He will be lovingly remembered by Anne, his wife of 65 years, his children Erwin, Sharon, and Ron, as well as his many grandchildren, his relatives, and friends.
While Alzheimer’s and Dementia slowly took him away, his harmonica and many songs were still his gift until the end. The silence left by his passing is where those who knew him will carry his love and his music.
The family will be holding an intimate celebration of life that will be announced at a later date.View All Photos
