BEVERLY – Mr. Alfred Chandler "Chan" Coffin, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on December 26th, 2022. Born in 1932 to Alfred C. Coffin and Dora Coffin in Berlin, NH, Chan lived life to its fullest through education and travel.
A graduate of Boston University School of Public Relations and Communications, Chan earned a BS in 1962, and a Masters in Education in Student Personnel Services in 1964, also from BU. He studied Social Services in Copenhagen, Edinburgh, and London through various exchange programs during summers.
While earning his degrees, he spent eight (8) years on the faculty of the Boston University College of Industrial Engineering, beginning in 1957 as an instructor in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering. Chan took a position as the Assistant Director of Admissions for Business Management at the Boston-based Burdett College for another eight (8) years. Chan joined the Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational School as a teacher and guidance counselor in 1972 until his retirement in 1995.
Chan traveled the world over in his free time, including several trips to Russia, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Denmark, and Germany. He very much enjoyed trips with his brother Arthur to Alaska, and travelled extensively throughout Montana and the upper Midwest.
Chan was very proud of his time with the Air Force during the Korean War where he spent two (2) years at the Okinawa Korean War Base. He was a fifty (50) year member of the Mount Tabor Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M.
Chan was predeceased by his beloved brother, Arthur B. Coffin and his sister-in-law, Gertrude, and their daughter, Cathy of Bozeman, Montana. He is remembered fondly by his friend-family, Paula Bartlett, Bill Bartlett, Emily and Jesús Ortiz and their children, and Casey Bartlett.
