ALFRED EICHOLZER Obituary

EICHOLZER, Alfred Walter "Fred" Age 90, husband of the late Mary Jane Eicholzer, of Shrewsbury (Centerville), MA, passed away peacefully, on May 28, 2025. His memory will be forever be a source of strength, adventure and achievement for his family and all those who knew and loved him. Fred was born on May 6, 1935 in Syracuse, NY, son of Alfred and Anna (Bunda) Eicholzer. He grew up in New Jersey and went to Saugus (MA) High School, Class of 1953. He was a proud graduate of Northeastern University, where he received his Masters in Science in Pharmacology. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves in 1957. In addition to being a published pharmacist, he was a member of the Society of Sigma Xi, The Rho Chi Society, the Pharmaceutical Honor Society and Rho Pi Phi and the International Pharmaceutical Fraternity. He began his career in Pharmacology at Allied Chemical and quickly transitioned to Astra Pharmaceuticals in Westborough, MA, where he worked for over 25 years. Fred spent his career in drug development and pharmacology, focusing on Xylocaine at Astra and moving on to focusing on treatments for cancer. Fred loved spending the winters in Florida, fine dining, including a good Old Fashioned, golfing and travelling the world with his wife and children. He was always interested in seeking an adventure or new experience, including taking his kids in his little Renault for a few laps on a frozen lake in Sweden in 1975. Fred married Mary Jane Wilson in 1961 and had two children, Wendy and William. Over the next three decades they instilled their love of life and family by moving the family from Boston to Woburn to Westborough and Sweden and back. In their later years, they moved to the Jersey Shore, where their four grandchildren enjoyed the beach, boating and trips to get ice cream and mocha frappes with their "Gramps." The grandkids gleefully returned to the house and pool after a day at the beach, where "Gramps" would have popsicles at the ready and a drink for the adults. Fred is survived by his loving daughter, Wendy Eicholzer Glass and her husband, Lewis; a son William Alfred Eicholzer; and his adored grandchildren, Ethan, Kristina, Allie and Heather. Fred recently became a great-grandfather with the birth of Maddie and Parker Glass. He is also survived by his sister, Julie Hart; and his sisters-in-law, Marilyn Wilson and Rae Wilson. Visiting Hours: His Funeral Service will be at Campbell Funeral Home, 6 High St., IPSWICH, on Monday, June 2, at 10:30AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Fred was my mother“s neighbor at Orchard Grove. He was a kind presence when she moved in - something she (and her family) will always be grateful for. Thank you Fred, you were lovely.
