Alfred Garner Obituary
Alfred J. Garner, age 95, peacefully passed from this world on January 7, 2026, with his family at his side during his final days. In life, he was a loving and dedicated husband and father who enjoyed music, architecture and spending time with family and friends.
Alfred was born on February 14, 1930, in East Liverpool, Ohio, to Earl and Beatrice Garner.
Al graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in architecture. He worked for Munger, Munger, and Associates for over fifty years, and while at the firm contributed to many significant buildings in the Toledo area, including schools, churches, the University of Toledo, and renovations to the main downtown library.
Al was active in the Toledo Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, serving as president, and in 2007 was named by the chapter as Architect of the Year.
He was a faithful member of Echo Meadows Church of Christ and often led singing for the congregation.
For many years, he enjoyed singing with the Toledo Choral Society. His favorite performance was the annual Messiah concert at Christmas. In addition, in later years, he also sang with the Sylvania Senior Center Chorus.
Al served his community by being active with the West Toledo Exchange Club for 63 years, where he participated in many service projects for the club and community. As with his other activities, he also served as president.
Al was kind to everyone and always willing to lend a hand or help anywhere he was needed.
Al is survived by his wife, Suzanne; sons, John (Vickie) and Steven (Alicia); grandsons, Ronald, Bradley, Alexander, and Aidan Garner; Joshua and Alaina Lopez; and sister-in-law, Susan Garner.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Les, William and Keith.
Family and friends may visit Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 3:00-7:00 p.m., at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. The Funeral Service will be Friday, January 16, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
Donations may be made to The Toledo Choral Society, Scholarship fund.

My prayers are with Sue and the family as they go through this rough time.
I sang in the Toledo Choral Society with Al for over 25 years. Hearing of his passing brought back pleasant memories of working the Mudhens games with he and Sue. He was a kind and humorous man. He will be greatly missed.
