Alfred Geiselhardt, affectionately known as Al, was welcomed into his eternal home on February 21, 2025, in Castle Pines, Colorado. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. Al, born on April 6, 1933, in Almadingen, Germany, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His warm smile was his signature, greeting everyone with kindness. His journey was marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. While his passing leaves a deep void, he will be remembered by how he lived and the lasting impact he had on those around him.
After graduating high school in Germany, Al immigrated to the United States with the help of his sponsor, his uncle Max Hummel. In 1955, he joined the U.S. Army, serving as a clerk for the Second Division. After leaving the Army in 1957, he returned to Colorado and worked at Hummel’s Deli. He met and married the love of his life, Helene, in 1958, and together they opened their own restaurant, Geiselhardt’s Delicatessen, in University Hills. For 30 years, the deli was not just their business—it was their second home, a place where they raised their children and built a community. In 1996, Alfred and Helene retired, embracing the opportunity to spend more time together and with their children and grandchildren. Al’s greatest joy was his family. He was a dedicated father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, always seen cheering at their events. A talented chef, he shared his love of cooking not only with the deli’s patrons but with all who gathered at his table. He loved traveling, being outdoors, and fishing—always eager to share stories of his latest catch. He had an adventurous spirit and a heart full of generosity. Those who knew Al will remember his infectious smile, deep faith, and unwavering kindness. He had a rare gift for making others feel welcome and valued, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Alfred is survived by his loving children, Tom, Barbara Head (Mark), and Marianne Zbylski (Mark). He was cherished by his 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helene, his daughter-in-law Jennifer Geiselhardt and his siblings, Bernadine, Carl, Franz, and Bertha.
A Celebration of Life service to honor Alfred Geiselhardt will be held on March 6, 2025, at 1:00 PM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 8035 S Quebec St, Centennial, CO 80112. He will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Friday, March 7, at 9:00 AM. Though Al is no longer with us in person, his spirit will live on through the love he shared and the lives he touched. His memory will forever be a blessing.
