Alfred Frithjof Johnson Jr.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Alfred Frithjof Johnson Jr., who departed this life on October 6, 2025, at the age of 91
Born on November 16, 1933, in Long Island, New York, Alfred began his life on the family farm, where he developed a deep connection to the land and a passion for aviation. He learned to fly at a young age, setting the course for a remarkable life rooted in agriculture and the skies.
Alfred was one of nine children, growing up with five sisters (Una, Rita, Lynda, Leona, Viola) and three brothers (Kenneth, Raymond, Alan).
He is survived by two of his brothers, Raymond Johnson and Alan Johnson. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews.
A born and bred potato farmer, Alfred's work ethic and love for agriculture shaped his life and legacy. In February 1959, he expanded his passion into the skies by founding Air Enterprises Inc., a crop-dusting business that would span decades. With a deep love for flying, he logged over 30,000 hours of flight time, earning the respect and admiration of his peers and community. His dedication to aviation and agriculture left a lasting impact on the region and those he served.
Alfred was a proud Mason, a member of his local Masonic Lodge, where he upheld the values of brotherhood, integrity, and service.
He was a father to four children: Joni Johnson (deceased), Dawn Leacock, Heather Elzey, and
Heidi Polito. He was also a grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather to
many.
In the final years of his life, Al could often be found at his favorite restaurants-Grotto Pizza and Cool Springs-where he held court from 'his seat,' sharing stories and memories that many will fondly remember.
He is also survived by his beloved dog, Blue Boy, who brought him endless joy and
companionship.
A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Funeral Home of Michael J Ambruso 1175 S. State Street, Dover, Delaware 19901 where family and friends will gather to celebrate Alfred's life and honor his memory. Visitation at funeral home will begin at 12 Noon. Burial will follow immediately after the service in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery in Frederica, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Alfred's memory to the Air Mobility Command (AMC) Museum Foundation, the Delaware Agricultural Museum or Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company (Station 55).
