Alfred Lyle Miller, son of Charles and Phyllis (Hulsebus) Miller was born on September 6, 1949 at Fodderburg Nursing Home in Manilla, in Crawford County, Iowa. He attended the Manilla school and graduated in 1967. While in school, he was active in sports and music. He furthered his education at college in Nebraska, earning his bachelor’s degree. After college, he returned to Iowa, living a short time in Oakland, Iowa.
In 1972 Lyle was united in marriage with MaroLee M. Carman. Three children were born to this union, Michael, Patrick and Kathleen. They continued to live in Oakland for a while before returning to the Manilla area, where he farmed with his father and later farmed on his own.
Lyle was very active in the local Masonic Golden Leaf Lodge #595, and also the Sioux City Scottish Rite, serving twice on the Grand Lodge of Iowa. He enjoyed farming, lodge events, old John Wayne movies, and other westerns. He was proud of restoring old tractors to look like new, even restoring a toy farm tractor. He also enjoyed visiting with people, making lots of friends, especially at Deb’s Corner Café in Manning, where he also liked having coffee and her delicious homemade pie.
After struggling with dementia, Lyle died on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Manning Senior Living, Manning, Iowa at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 7 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother Eugene Miller and brother Neil Miller.
Lyle is survived by his wife, MaroLee Miller of Manilla; son Michael Miller of Manilla; son Patrick Miller and wife Amanda of Manilla; daughter Kathleen Miller and Matt Moesner of Iowa City; three grandchildren: Casey, Camden and Lily; brother Alan Miller and wife Sue of PA; sister in law Mary Miller of Manilla; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2025 from 2 - 5 PM at the Golden Leaf Lodge at 452 Main Street, Manilla, Iowa. Condolences may be left to the family in Lyle's name.
