Daniel David Hansen, son of Raymond and Clara (Fromm) Hansen, was born on September 12, 1950, in Sioux City, Iowa. He attended school in Manilla and graduated with the Class of 1969.

On July 8, 1972, Dan was united in marriage to Betty Lorraine Pedersen at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dow City. Three children were born to this union: David, Kristi, and Marsha. The couple made their home in Manilla, where Dan began working for Rasmussen Lumber in September of 1970 and remained there until his retirement in 2010.

Dan was deeply involved in his community, serving as a member of the Manilla Fire Department and First Responders, as well as a Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts leader. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manilla.

In his free time, Dan enjoyed building birdhouses, hunting and fishing, reloading ammunition, and sharpening saws.

Daniel passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the age of 75 years, three months, and 30 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Clara Hansen; infant sister, Linda Rae; best friend, Dean Vennink; and his beloved dog, Star.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Hansen of Manilla; his children: David Hansen (significant other, Christina Studt) of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; Kristi Hansen-Goodrich (Chad); and Marsha Hansen; four grandchildren: Alexis, Dawson, Andy, and Addie; his sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Kelley (Perry); along with cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manilla on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. His funeral liturgy will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., also at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Manilla. Memorials may be directed to the family.
