Alfred "Al" Harry Schlueter Jr., born on November 19, 1943, passed peacefully in his home on Saturday, June 21, 2025 in Arlington, with his wife of 32 years and family by his side after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in Westchester, IL and raised in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, Al worked as a supervisor for Electro-Motive Diesel division of General Motors for over 30 years. He met his first wife, Linda, in 1968, with whom he had his two children, Alfie and Karen. He relocated to Jacksonville for work in 1978, and there met his second wife, Barbara, in 1989.
His time on earth was spent filled with his love for his family, a vast knowledge of and love for history, a talent for cooking delicious homemade meals, and a keen knack for storytelling. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and enjoyed traveling all over the US and Carribean. He joyously played an active role as a father and grandfather to children and grandchildren who miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by parents Alfred Sr. and Marianne and sister Heather. He is survived by wife Barbara Schlueter, son Alfred Schlueter III, daughter Karen (Timo) Bennett, and step-daughter Catherine (Thomas) Azzarello, as well as 6 grandchildren:
Krista (Justin), Kimberly, Christian, Courtney, Emily and Ericka.
