Alger C. Stone

Alger C Stone of Ridgewood, NJ passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2025. He was 101 years old. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 09th at Mount Carmel Church in Ridgewood. The Internment will follow at 1:00pm at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.

Al was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois working in the glass industry as a salesman eventually becoming a manager and partner within the industry. He met his wife Diane at a glass sales convention in Chicago. They were together for over 50 years until she passed from ALS in August of 2010. He moved his family to New Jersey in 1972.

Our father was a true WWII hero surviving the landing on the Beach in Normandy. Serving under General George C Patton, he suffered through the Battle of Metz, liberated concentration camps and was awarded the Bronze Star for capturing 50 German soldiers with just one other soldier who happened to be his good friend from Chicago, Don Arnold. He was also awarded a Purple Heart for being wounded with shrapnel on the battlefield.

Al was a proud member of the Ridgewood American Legion, chapter 503. His family would like to send special thanks to that group for all the amazing things they do to keep the memory of their Veterans Alive. They would also like to thank the Paramus Veterans Home for their wonderful compassionate care extended to our Dad for the past 11 years.

He is survived by his 3 daughters and their families, Debbie and Alex Milovic, Val and Rick Claydon, Karen and Randy O'Hare as well as his beloved sister Donna Deerwester. Al also has 6 wonderful grandchildren Tara Claydon Flett, Jennifer Claydon Nydam, Kelly Claydon Christodoulo, Megan O'Hare Lyons, Lindsey O'Hare Verity and Mark Milovic. The families continue to thrive and Al also has a multitude of great grandchildren.
