Alice Doherty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home - Braintree on Nov. 18, 2024.
Alice Layng (Kennedy) Doherty, 100 pounds of feistiness, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024, at her home in Braintree, MA. Born on February 7, 1943, in Boston, MA, to the late Francis and Alice (Shaughnessy) Kennedy, Alice was a woman whose passion for life touched everyone she met. Alice was the beloved wife of James R. Doherty, sharing a beautiful and enduring love that was the cornerstone of their life in Braintree and their cherished retreat in Marco Island, FL. Together, they created a family grounded in love, compassion, and laughter. She was the loving mother of Brian Doherty and his wife Laurie of Old Greenwich, CT, Deanna Rose Doherty-DiCostanzo and her husband Joseph of St. Petersburg, FL, and the late James M. Doherty. Alice's role as Mamo to Sean M. Doherty of NYC, Megan Doherty of Cambridge, and Ava K. Doherty of Old Greenwich, CT, was one she embraced with joy and pride. Her grandchildren will forever cherish the warmth and wisdom she imparted. A graduate of U-Mass Boston, Alice's thirst for knowledge and her commitment to education were hallmarks of her character. She believed in the power of learning to transform lives and encouraged her children and grandchildren to pursue their dreams with tenacity. Alice's siblings held a special place in her heart. She was the devoted sister of the late Michael Kennedy, and she shared a special bond with her sister-in-law Nancy Doherty of Swampscott, as well as remembering fondly her late brothers-in-law John and Edward Doherty. Alice's extended family, including her many nieces and nephews, will miss her loving guidance and her ability to make each family gathering memorable. Those who knew Alice will remember her as a passionate soul who approached every day with a sense of purpose and an open heart. Her kindness was her signature, leaving a lasting impression on friends and strangers alike. Her passion for life was evident in her unwavering support for her family, her dedication to her community, and her love for the simple pleasures in life. Alice's legacy is one of love and kindness, a testament to the life she lived and the hearts she touched. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by the stories shared, the lessons taught, and the love she gave so freely. Alice Layng (Kennedy) Doherty will be profoundly missed, but the impact of her life will continue to resonate with all who were fortunate enough to know her. As we bid farewell to Alice, we reflect on a life well-lived, a journey filled with love, and a woman who exemplified the best of us. Her spirit will forever be a guiding light for her family, a reminder of the beauty and strength of unconditional love." Alice kept up her fighting spirit and her sense of humor right until the very end. Her family admires her for her gallant battle courageously facing death, and fighting with grace and faith. She is now home with God" Reposing at the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home 845 Washington St. Braintree. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation period Tuesday morning from 9:30- 11:30am followed by a Funeral Mass at 12 noon in St. Francis of Assisi Church 856 Washington St. Braintree. We will miss Alice so much! She was a wonderful woman whom I knew my whole life. She was such a generous woman with a great sense of humor and kindness that could not be matched. I know there was quite a party in heaven with manhattans when she saw my dad
Sending love to you all during this time.
