William B. Keane

William B. Keane, of Braintree, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on February 20, 2026, at the age of 88. Born and raised in South Boston, he was known as "Nubby" to the family and friends who grew up with him and "Bill" to those he met along the way.

Nubby was the beloved husband of 65 years to Barbara (Wallace) Keane. Devoted father of Kimberly Griffin and her husband, John, of Braintree; William W. Keane and his wife, Cynthia (Davies), of Braintree; and Melissa McDermott and her husband, Thomas, of Canton. Affectionately known as "Dubby" to his grandchildren, he was adored and cherished by Jennifer Keane, William W. Keane Jr., Daniel Griffin, and Patrick Griffin and his fiancée, Fiona Donovan. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Son of the late Martin and Nora (Guiney) Keane, he was predeceased by his brothers Marty, John, Timmy, Bobby, and Ricky Keane.

After graduating from South Boston High School, Nubby went on to serve in the United States Navy with pride at the military base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as a member of the Sea Bees. He worked for over 30 years for the MBTA and was a proud member of the Carmen's Union, Local 589.

Nubby was known for his good-natured wit, sarcasm, and endless stories. He loved to tinker and could fix anything. He was an outstanding cook and loved Irish culture and music. He and Barbie travelled the globe together from Aruba to New Zealand and countless places in between. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, February 25th, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 26th, at 10:00 AM at St. Clare Church, 1244 Liberty St., Braintree. Burial will follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Croí Health, 120 Longwater Dr., Norwell, MA 02061, in appreciation of the wonderful care they provided in Nubby's final weeks.
