Alice Jimenez Gutierrez died on August 19, 2024 at the age of 95. She was born October 22, 1928 in Granger, Texas to Ysidro and Marcelina Jimenez. She was baptized at Saints Cyril and Methodious Catholic Church in Granger on December 2, 1928. Early in her life she moved with her family to Smithville, Texas. In 1947, she married Raul Gutierrez and moved to Bastrop, Texas.
Alice worked at Holy Cross Hospital in Austin, Texas in the linen service. She then worked as a caregiver at The Hideout Learning Center in Bastrop, Texas. She also served as a cafeteria worker for Bastrop ISD feeding hundreds of children until her retirement in 1997.
Alice enjoyed sewing, ironing, watching novelas, going to parties and reunions, picking and shelling pecans, going to bingo, visiting her sisters, attending the annual Jimenez Christmas Eve party, drinking coffee on the back porch with her sisters-in-law, and arguing with her son Gary. She was known for cooking delicious Mexican food and sweets. Her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Alice was a devout member of Ascension Catholic Church in Bastrop, Texas.
Gary and his wife Jeanette will be forever grateful for all of the help she provided taking care of their children while they pursued their careers in Austin.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Raul Gutierrez, parents, brothers, Joe Jimenez and Eddie Jimenez, and sisters, Irene Jimenez Lopez, Isabel Jimenez, and Susie Jimenez Jonas.
She is survived by her son, Gary Gutierrez and his wife Jeanette, grandsons, Grant Gutierrez and his wife Krystel, Garrett Gutierrez and his wife Sarah, granddaughter, Gianna Lawrence and her husband John, grandchildren, Arabella Gutierrez, Emeline Gutierrez, Penelope Gutierrez, Rhett Gutierrez, Collins Lawrence, Hallie Lawrence, and Gage Gutierrez, loving niece, Mona De La Rosa, and countless nieces, nephews, and family.
A special thank you to the staff at Towers Nursing Home in Smithville, Texas for the kindness and care they gave Alice during her stay.
Visitation will be at Marrs Jones Newby Funeral Home in Bastrop, Texas at 5 pm on Sunday, August 25, 2024 with a Rosary following at 7 pm. The funeral Mass will be at Ascension Catholic Church in Bastrop, Texas at 10 am on Monday, August 26, 2024.
The family invites you to join them for a meal and fellowship at the church hall immediately following the Mass, a Graveside Service will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Smithville, Texas at 2 pm on Monday, August 26, 2024.
