Opalee M. Mayes born January 28, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, at the age of 85 in the Abode Home in San Antonio, Texas, of pancreatic cancer.

Opalee will be remembered for her love of family and friends, crafty homemaking, delicious foods and beautiful gardening.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Gerald Mayes, and parents Edward and Theopal Krebel.

Survivors include her loving son DeWayne Mayes (Bonnie) of Corpus Christi, TX, daughter Melody Montgomery (Greg) of Del Rio, TX, sisters Ethel Burrier, Denise Bradley (Bruce), and brother Edmond Krebel all of San Antonio, TX.

Grandchildren: Jason Montgomery (Maritza) of Bastrop, TX, Whitney Montgomery of Del Rio, TX, Jennifer Rendon (Robert) of Corpus Christi, TX, Brandon Baxter (Tara) of Uvalde, TX, and Guy Rigby (Tiffany) of Corpus Christi, TX. Great grandchildren: Bella and Trevor of Bastrop, TX, Hadley of Del Rio, TX, Private First-Class Madison Rendon, USMC, Wyatt, Jase, Kaydence, and Kinsley all of Corpus Christi, TX.

Nephew: Michael Beck of San Antonio, TX, lifelong best friend Dorothy Roberts of Brackettville, TX, and her fur baby Cuddles.

DeWayne gives a special thanks to Dorothy Roberts, RN Cheryl Pumphrey of Methodist Hospice Care, and the staff and volunteers from Abode Home, for the wonderful care of my mother.

Graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Rutledge, Cemetery in Poteet, TX.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Abode Home P.O. BOX 47640 San Antonio, Texas, 78265, or online at Abodehome.org
